Beginning March 29, 2026, the airline will deploy a total of 823 passenger aircraft across its network, marking a substantial commitment to meeting rising travel demand both domestically and internationally. Among this fleet are 14 domestically manufactured C919 jetliners, underscoring the airline’s support for China’s homegrown aviation industry and its ongoing modernization strategy.

Launch of New International Routes

To further expand its global footprint, China Eastern plans to launch 30 new international and regional routes during the 2026 summer–autumn season. These additions will enhance connectivity between China and emerging as well as established destinations worldwide.

Among the new routes is a direct connection between Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, and Vienna, providing greater access between northwest China and Central Europe. Other notable new routes include services linking Shanghai with Tashkent, Adelaide, Cheongju, and Tbilisi. The Shanghai–Tashkent route, scheduled to commence on March 30, is expected to strengthen ties between China and Central Asia, supporting trade and tourism.

These new routes are strategically selected to tap into growing travel demand and to support China’s broader economic and diplomatic engagement with different regions.

Increased Frequencies on Existing Routes

In addition to launching new routes, China Eastern is also increasing flight frequencies on 14 existing international and regional routes. These include key connections between Shanghai and major global cities such as Venice, Barcelona, and Singapore.

By boosting frequencies on established routes, the airline aims to provide greater flexibility and convenience for travelers, allowing them to choose from a wider range of departure times. This approach also helps CEAir maximize the utilization of its existing network while meeting peak travel demand.

Seasonal Route Adjustments and Summer Travel Surge

During this time, the airline will resume or introduce several international and regional routes to cater to increased leisure travel.

Among the routes to be resumed or launched are services connecting Shanghai with Stockholm, Dublin, Zurich, Mumbai, and Ulaanbaatar. These destinations are popular among tourists and are expected to see strong demand during the summer months.

Passengers traveling on wide-body aircraft operated by China Eastern and its subsidiary, Shanghai Airlines, will be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi across all classes on routes between China and Australia, New Zealand, and nearby regions. This initiative reflects the growing importance of in-flight connectivity, particularly for business travelers and digitally connected passengers.
