Austin–Bergstrom International Airport and Porter Airlines Launch Inaugural Nonstop Service Between Austin and Toronto

Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) today officially welcomed Porter Airlines as its newest international carrier partner, marking the launch of inaugural nonstop service between Austin, Texas, and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The milestone represents a significant expansion of air connectivity between Central Texas and Canada’s largest city, further strengthening Austin’s position as a growing global aviation gateway.

The new year-round route is designed to enhance travel options for both leisure and business passengers while deepening economic, academic, and cultural ties between the two regions. With Toronto serving as a major international hub and Austin continuing to emerge as one of the fastest-growing metropolitan economies in the United States, the connection is expected to stimulate increased cross-border movement in tourism, commerce, and investment.

Strengthening International Connectivity Between Texas and Canada

The introduction of Porter Airlines at Austin–Bergstrom International Airport adds a key new link to the airport’s expanding international network. The Austin–Toronto service will operate five times per week, offering travelers a direct and convenient option for travel between Central Texas and Eastern Canada.

For Austin-based passengers, the route provides seamless access not only to Toronto but also to Porter Airlines’ broader Canadian network, which includes destinations across Ontario, Quebec, the Atlantic provinces, and western Canada through connecting flights. Similarly, Canadian travelers gain improved access to Austin’s rapidly expanding technology sector, live music industry, educational institutions, and growing tourism market.

Airport officials emphasized that the new service supports AUS’s long-term strategy to increase international reach and meet rising passenger demand for global travel options.

Five Weekly Flights Using Modern E195-E2 Aircraft

Porter Airlines will operate the Austin–Toronto route using its state-of-the-art Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, a next-generation jet known for fuel efficiency, reduced noise levels, and enhanced passenger comfort. The aircraft configuration reflects Porter’s distinctive approach to economy-class travel, offering a more premium onboard experience compared to traditional short- and medium-haul services.

Passengers on board the E195-E2 will benefit from a range of complimentary amenities, including snacks and beverages, beer and wine served in glassware, high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, and personal power outlets at every seat. The aircraft’s cabin layout is designed without middle seats, providing additional personal space and comfort for travelers.

The five-times-weekly schedule is expected to accommodate both leisure travelers seeking flexible vacation options and business passengers requiring frequent and reliable service between two major economic centers.

Expanding Economic and Cultural Ties Between Austin and Toronto

The launch of nonstop flights between Austin and Toronto is expected to generate meaningful benefits for both cities beyond aviation connectivity. Austin’s rapidly growing technology and innovation ecosystem continues to attract global investment, while Toronto remains one of North America’s leading financial, media, and multicultural hubs.

Business leaders anticipate that the new route will facilitate stronger collaboration between companies in sectors such as information technology, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and digital media. In addition, universities and research institutions in both regions are expected to benefit from improved academic exchange opportunities and international partnerships.

Tourism is also projected to receive a boost, with Austin offering visitors its signature live music scene, cultural festivals, and culinary experiences, while Toronto provides access to iconic attractions such as the CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, Distillery District, and Lake Ontario waterfront. Travelers can also connect easily from Toronto to popular nearby destinations including Niagara Falls.

Celebratory Inaugural Event at AUS

To commemorate the launch of the new service, Austin–Bergstrom International Airport hosted a celebratory event at the departure gate prior to the first flight’s takeoff. The event brought together airport leadership, Porter Airlines representatives, community stakeholders, and passengers traveling on the inaugural journey.

The ceremony highlighted the importance of the new connection and its expected impact on regional development and international accessibility. Passengers on the first flight were also recognized as part of the milestone celebration, marking the beginning of what officials described as a long-term partnership between AUS and Porter Airlines.

Leadership Remarks on the New Route

Speaking at the launch event, airport leadership emphasized the strategic importance of expanding international air service in response to Austin’s continued growth.

“Welcoming Porter Airlines to AUS is an exciting milestone for our airport and the Central Texas region,” said Ghizlane Badawi, Chief Executive Officer of Austin–Bergstrom International Airport. “Each new international connection strengthens Austin’s role as a global destination and supports the economic vitality of our community. This service to Toronto provides our passengers with another seamless travel option while also inviting new visitors to discover everything that makes Austin unique.”

Porter Airlines also highlighted the strategic value of entering the Austin market as part of its broader North American expansion strategy.

“Austin is one of North America’s most dynamic and fastest-growing cities, making it an ideal fit for Porter’s growing network of flights,” said Kevin Jackson, President of Porter Airlines. “This route opens exciting new opportunities for business, tourism, and cultural exchange between two vibrant cities. We look forward to welcoming Central Texas travelers onboard and introducing them to Porter’s elevated flying experience.”

Supporting AUS’s Growing International Strategy

The addition of Porter Airlines aligns with Austin–Bergstrom International Airport’s ongoing efforts to expand its international footprint and enhance passenger choice. As Austin continues to experience rapid population growth and increasing demand for global connectivity, the airport has prioritized partnerships with international carriers to support economic development and improve access to key global markets.

The new Austin–Toronto route is expected to play an important role in strengthening the airport’s transborder network, particularly as demand for U.S.–Canada travel continues to recover and expand across multiple sectors.

AUS officials indicated that additional international route expansions remain a priority as the airport works to meet future capacity needs and support Central Texas’s evolving role as a global business and cultural hub.

A New Chapter in North American Air Connectivity

With the launch of Porter Airlines’ nonstop service between Austin and Toronto, both cities gain a valuable new link that enhances mobility, strengthens economic relationships, and broadens travel opportunities for passengers on both sides of the border.

As the first aircraft departed Austin for Toronto, the milestone marked not only the beginning of a new route but also a deeper partnership between two dynamic urban centers. The service is expected to play a key role in supporting continued growth in tourism, business travel, and international collaboration between Texas and Canada in the years ahead.
