Joby Aviation, Inc. proudly declares its status as the pioneer in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft development, having successfully concluded the third stage of the rigorous Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification process. Specializing in electric air taxis for commercial passenger service, Joby Aviation continues to make strides in advancing the future of urban air mobility.
In a significant milestone, Joby Aviation, Inc. has completed the third stage of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification process. During this phase, Joby submitted comprehensive certification plans covering the aircraft’s structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, as well as the company’s certification approach to cybersecurity, human factors, and noise.
The FAA has reviewed and accepted all certification plans, positioning Joby to proceed with test plans and for-credit testing across every aspect of its aircraft program. JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby, expressed his confidence in the company’s leadership role in the electric air taxi industry, highlighting the collaborative efforts with the FAA to support U.S. leadership in this emerging field of aviation.
Moving forward, Joby is fully engaged in the fourth stage of the certification process, focusing on tests and analysis for FAA credit across all components and systems of its aircraft. Didier Papadopoulos, President of Aircraft OEM at Joby, emphasized the team’s commitment to executing the certification process and leading the industry toward commercialization.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, Joby accomplished 30 for-credit tests, encompassing flight electronics units and structural materials. These tests validated essential methods and processes, laying the groundwork for Joby’s continued expansion of FAA for credit testing.
A recent milestone for Joby includes receiving its Part 145 Repair Station Certificate from the FAA. This certificate enables the company to perform select maintenance activities on aircraft, marking a crucial step towards the commercialization of Joby’s electric air taxi service.
Designed to carry a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph, Joby’s electric air taxi promises high-speed mobility with minimal noise and zero operating emissions, aligning with the company’s commitment to revolutionizing urban air mobility.
