Porter Airlines Expands London International Airport Network With Five New Domestic Routes
Porter Airlines is significantly expanding its presence at London International Airport (YXU), announcing five new year-round domestic routes that will connect Southwestern Ontario travellers with major cities across Canada beginning in spring 2027.
The new nonstop services will link London, Ontario, directly with Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal-MET, Ottawa and Vancouver, creating a broader coast-to-coast network from the regional airport. The expansion is designed to provide passengers and businesses in Southwestern Ontario with greater access to important Canadian business centres, leisure destinations and connecting travel opportunities.
The new routes represent another major step in Porter Airlines’ growth at London International Airport. The airline recently announced four additional routes from London to popular warm-weather destinations in Florida, Mexico and Jamaica beginning this winter. Together, the domestic and international additions substantially expand the range of destinations available to passengers flying from London.
Five New Routes Strengthen Southwestern Ontario Connectivity
Porter’s new domestic network will provide direct service from London to several of Canada’s largest and most important urban centres. The routes have been structured as year-round services, giving travellers dependable options beyond seasonal travel periods.
The five routes are:
- London to Halifax — beginning April 12, 2027, with up to seven weekly flights
- London to Vancouver — beginning April 12, 2027, with up to 11 weekly flights
- London to Edmonton — beginning May 6, 2027, with up to seven weekly flights
- London to Ottawa — beginning April 12, 2027, with up to 20 weekly flights
- London to Montreal-MET — beginning April 12, 2027, with up to 20 weekly flights
The expansion gives residents throughout Southwestern Ontario more opportunities to travel directly from their local airport instead of relying on larger airports farther away.
According to Porter Airlines, the network expansion is intended to serve a regional population of more than two million people by providing convenient access to destinations across the country.
Direct Access to Major Canadian Markets
The new routes will connect London with destinations spanning the country’s eastern, central and western regions.Halifax provides access to Atlantic Canada and serves as an important business, tourism and transportation centre for the region. Vancouver and Edmonton expand London’s direct connectivity to Western Canada, creating new options for both leisure and business travellers.
The Ottawa and Montreal routes are particularly significant for business travel. Porter will operate up to three daily roundtrips on both routes during peak periods, allowing passengers to make same-day trips between London and the two major eastern Canadian cities. The increased frequency gives business travellers greater flexibility when planning meetings, appointments and other professional activities without necessarily requiring an overnight stay.
Porter Expands Its London Presence
Kevin Jackson, president of Porter Airlines, said the new domestic services build on the strong response to the carrier’s previously announced winter sun routes. The airline sees the latest expansion as evidence of its long-term commitment to making London an important part of its broader network. We are building on the strong passenger response to our recent winter sun destinations announcement by introducing five nonstop domestic routes. This expansion demonstrates that Porter is committed to making London a meaningful part of our network,” Jackson said.
He added that travellers throughout Southwestern Ontario will gain convenient access to cities across Canada while experiencing Porter’s passenger-focused service. The five new routes are also expected to strengthen London’s role as a regional aviation gateway by making it easier for residents and businesses to reach destinations on both sides of the country.
London Airport Welcomes Transformational Expansion
London International Airport views the Porter expansion as an important development for the region’s transportation infrastructure and economic connectivity.Scott McFadzean, president and CEO of London International Airport, said the announcement goes beyond simply adding flights to the airport’s schedule. This announcement is about more than new flights. It is about connecting Southwestern Ontario to opportunities across Canada,” McFadzean said.
He described the five domestic nonstop routes as a transformational investment that will strengthen access for both travellers and businesses. The expansion is also expected to reinforce London’s position as a growing centre for aviation and aerospace. Improved air connectivity can provide businesses with easier access to customers, suppliers, partners and employees in other parts of Canada.McFadzean thanked Porter Airlines for continuing to invest in London International Airport and for its confidence in the airport, local community and the region’s future.
E195-E2 and Dash 8-400 Aircraft
Porter will operate the new services using a combination of its 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 and 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft. The E195-E2 will be used on the longer-distance routes to Halifax, Vancouver and Edmonton. The aircraft provides the capacity required for these coast-to-coast services while offering passengers Porter’s onboard service. The Dash 8-400 will operate the routes between London and Ottawa as well as London and Montreal-MET. The aircraft is well suited to the frequency required on these shorter domestic routes. One notable feature across the new services is the absence of middle seats. Porter says passengers will benefit from a cabin configuration that provides either a window or aisle seat throughout the aircraft.
Frequent Service to Ottawa and Montreal
The London-Ottawa and London-Montreal-MET routes will offer some of the highest frequencies in the new network. Both routes are scheduled to operate at peak frequencies of up to 20 flights per week. The schedule will include up to three daily roundtrips, providing additional flexibility for passengers travelling for business or other time-sensitive purposes. The high frequency means passengers will have more choices throughout the day and can potentially travel to Ottawa or Montreal and return to London on the same day.For the business community, this connectivity can reduce travel time and make London more accessible for companies conducting business in Canada’s major government and commercial centres.
New Montreal-MET Airport Experience
Porter’s service to Montreal will operate to Montreal Metropolitan Airport (YHU), also known as MET.The airport offers an alternative to Montreal’s larger international gateway and is positioned approximately 30 minutes from downtown Montreal. Porter highlights the airport’s streamlined passenger experience, including a premium waiting lounge environment and an easy journey from check-in through boarding. For passengers travelling between London and Montreal, the airport’s location and simplified passenger experience can provide an attractive option for business and leisure travel. The new service is scheduled to begin on April 12, 2027, with peak frequencies reaching 20 weekly flights.
Daily Connectivity Across the Network
Porter has structured the new routes around regular daily service, giving passengers more consistent travel options throughout the week.Halifax service begins April 12, 2027, with up to seven weekly flights. Vancouver service also begins April 12 and will operate up to 11 times weekly. Edmonton service starts May 6 with up to seven weekly flights. The Ottawa and Montreal routes will begin April 12 and each have peak frequencies of up to 20 weekly flights. The combination of daily and high-frequency service is intended to make the new network useful for a broad range of travellers, including business passengers, families, tourists and residents visiting friends and relatives.
Enhanced Passenger Experience
Passengers travelling on Porter’s new routes will receive the airline’s elevated economy experience. The service includes complimentary beer and wine served in glassware, along with premium snacks for passengers. On flights operated by the E195-E2, travellers will also have access to free, fast WiFi.These onboard features form part of Porter’s strategy to differentiate its service in the Canadian domestic market by providing additional amenities within its economy cabin. For passengers seeking additional benefits, Porter offers PorterReserve, an upgraded travel option positioned at the front of the cabin.PorterReserve includes extra-legroom seating, dedicated check-in and boarding, two checked bags and complimentary fresh meals and premium cocktails on longer routes.Travellers who prefer greater flexibility can select PorterClassic, which allows them to customize their journey by adding individual services and benefits on an à la carte basis.
Supporting Regional Economic Growth
The expansion is expected to provide benefits beyond individual travellers. Direct air connectivity can play an important role in supporting regional economic activity by making it easier for businesses to connect with customers, employees and partners in other markets. For Southwestern Ontario, the new routes create direct links with major Canadian centres without requiring travellers to first drive to a larger airport outside the region. The addition of Western Canadian destinations such as Vancouver and Edmonton also gives London-area passengers new options for reaching markets thousands of kilometres away.At the same time, increased connectivity to Halifax, Ottawa and Montreal strengthens links with Eastern Canada.
A Broader Network for London
Porter’s five domestic routes build on the airline’s growing presence at London International Airport. The carrier’s previously announced winter services to sun destinations in Florida, Mexico and Jamaica are expected to complement the new domestic network by giving local passengers more leisure travel options. With domestic and international destinations being added to its schedule, London International Airport is positioned to offer a broader selection of travel choices to the Southwestern Ontario market. For Porter, the expansion also strengthens the airline’s ability to use London as an important point within its wider Canadian network.
Spring 2027 Launch Marks Major Milestone
The new services will begin rolling out in April and May 2027, with four of the five routes launching on April 12 and the London-Edmonton route following on May 6.The planned schedule provides London-area travellers with direct access to Canada’s Atlantic, central and western regions while maintaining frequent service to Ottawa and Montreal. With five new year-round routes, upgraded passenger amenities and a combination of E195-E2 and Dash 8-400 aircraft, Porter Airlines is positioning London International Airport as an increasingly important regional gateway.
The expansion is expected to give more than two million residents across Southwestern Ontario improved access to major Canadian destinations while strengthening the airport’s role in supporting regional business, tourism and aviation growth.Porter Airlines’ latest network expansion demonstrates the growing importance of regional airports in providing convenient air transportation options. For London and Southwestern Ontario, the new coast-to-coast services offer a significant increase in connectivity and provide travellers with more opportunities to begin their journeys closer to home.
