Transfix and E3 Group Team Up to Combat Freight Fraud

Transfix and E3 Group Integrate Driver Authentication to Combat Freight Fraud

The integration combines E3 Group’s driver authentication and fraud prevention technology with the Transfix TMS, allowing brokers to access a broader range of risk intelligence without leaving the platform they already use to manage freight. With the integration now live, brokers operating through Transfix can authenticate a driver before a pickup number is released. Instead of relying on limited fraud indicators available through traditional freight brokerage software, users can leverage the broader set of risk factors analyzed by E3 to make more informed dispatch decisions.Direct Traffic Solutions (DTS) is among the first freight brokers to deploy the integrated solution.

Driver Authentication Built Into the Dispatch Workflow

Freight fraud has become an increasingly significant concern for brokers, carriers and shippers as criminal networks use increasingly sophisticated methods to intercept loads, impersonate legitimate drivers and manipulate carrier information.Traditional fraud prevention tools can require brokers to move between multiple systems, manually compare information or review risk reports separately from their dispatch workflows. This can create delays and increase the possibility that critical warning signs will be overlooked during busy periods.

The Transfix and E3 integration is designed to address that challenge by moving driver authentication directly into the freight brokerage workflow.Brokers have been asked to bolt fraud prevention onto systems that were never built to receive it. E3 scores 12 to 14 risk factors on every driver, and a legacy TMS throws most of them away. We built the Transfix TMS to carry the whole set into the workflow, so the check happens at dispatch and not in a report someone reads a week later,” said Jonathan Salama, Co-founder and CEO of Transfix.

Under the new integration, the authentication process takes place within the Transfix TMS. Brokers do not need a separate vendor login or a separate integration project to access the E3 capabilities. The result is a more centralized process in which driver verification, risk assessment and freight dispatch can occur within the same operating environment.

Direct Traffic Solutions Among Early Users

Direct Traffic Solutions is one of the first brokers to activate E3’s technology within the Transfix TMS.The company enabled the system without undertaking a separate integration project and without requiring its representatives to adopt another software platform. Driver authentication occurs where the load is already being managed, while the resulting verification record remains associated with the shipment. For freight brokers, this approach can reduce friction between fraud prevention and day-to-day operations.

Our customers trust us to protect their freight, and that means giving our teams the best information possible without adding complexity to their day. The integration between E3 and the Transfix TMS brings those risk insights directly into the workflow our team already uses, so it feels like one connected system rather than another tool they have to manage,” said Frank Discenza, CEO of Direct Traffic Solutions. It’s a meaningful step forward in helping us make informed decisions while keeping the experience seamless for both our team and our customers.”

Addressing Gaps in Traditional Freight Brokerage Systems

One of the central issues addressed by the partnership is the amount of risk information that traditional transportation management systems can capture and display.E3 evaluates between 12 and 14 distinct risk factors for every driver, while its broader platform can surface more than 50 risk indicators in less than two minutes. Older brokerage management systems may be designed to accept only a basic pass-or-fail result.

That limited approach can prevent brokers from seeing the individual signals that contribute to a driver’s overall risk profile.Unmapped information may be discarded, while other details can remain in a separate fraud prevention portal that requires representatives to manually review and interpret the information. The problem can become more significant when freight volumes increase. During periods of heavy activity, manual verification processes can be difficult to maintain consistently. The Transfix integration is designed to make the authentication process part of the dispatch workflow rather than an additional task performed outside it.By bringing E3’s risk information directly into the Transfix TMS, brokers can review driver risk information within the same environment used for freight planning and dispatch.

Authentication Before the Pickup Number Is Released

A key feature of the integration is the ability to authenticate driver identity before the pickup number is released. This places the fraud prevention check at a critical point in the freight lifecycle: before the driver proceeds to pick up the shipment. The system is designed to combine multiple pieces of information during the authentication process, helping brokers identify potential inconsistencies or suspicious activity before freight begins moving.E3’s technology includes biometric driver authentication and checks involving the driver’s commercial driver’s license, truck and phone number.

The platform also uses vision-based document review to examine images and compare information across documents and vehicle identifiers. This can help identify altered or suspicious documentation, including attempts to conceal or modify truck identifiers that conventional optical character recognition systems may not detect.

Multiple Risk Signals in Real Time

The integrated system is designed to provide brokers with a broader view of driver risk rather than depending on a single verification result.E3’s technology analyzes multiple risk signals and produces a real-time risk assessment. According to the companies, the system can analyze 60 signals per driver while maintaining the pickup number lock until authentication has been completed.

This approach is intended to give freight brokers more information at the moment a dispatch decision is being made.Potential threats addressed by the integration include doctored commercial driver’s licenses, hacked email accounts used to intercept load information, carrier impersonation, VPN masking, magnetic DOT numbers, unauthorized non-domiciled CDLs and so-called “chameleon carriers” that re-register under different identities to conceal problematic safety records.

E3 also updates its detection rules weekly as fraud tactics and criminal methods evolve. For brokers, maintaining current detection capabilities is increasingly important because freight fraud methods can change quickly. A verification process that relies only on static rules may struggle to keep pace with new methods of identity manipulation and load interception.

Creating an Auditable Record

Another component of the integrated system is the creation of an auditable data trail. The companies said that each authentication check, image and risk score can be stored against the associated load. This provides brokers with a record of the verification process that can be referenced by shippers, insurers and auditors when required.

Maintaining this information alongside the shipment can also reduce the need for employees to search through separate systems to reconstruct the steps taken before a load was dispatched. For freight organizations managing large numbers of shipments, an accessible record of verification can become an important part of internal compliance and risk management processes.

Fraud Prevention Across Freight Operations

The companies said the integrated system is designed to operate across all freight rather than being limited only to shipments considered high risk or high value. This is important because fraudulent activity can affect a broad range of loads and transportation providers. Applying authentication consistently can help brokers establish a standardized process instead of relying on employees to determine which shipments require additional checks.

The Transfix TMS combines fraud prevention with other freight management functions, including automated freight pricing, load dispatch and freight planning.By integrating the E3 technology directly into the TMS, the companies aim to make authentication part of normal freight operations rather than an optional bolt-on service.

E3’s Experience With Driver Verification

E3 has reviewed drivers associated with more than 650,000 loads to date, according to the companies. Clients using the platform have recorded zero fraud incidents.E3’s leading driver authentication platform enables brokers to surface 50+ risk indicators in under 2 minutes. Handling this data requires complex workflows which Transfix’s platform automates, making driver authentication simpler and more efficient for mid-market and enterprise brokers to know who’s behind the wheel before any freight is moved, and have a fully auditable record to back them up – protecting them, and keeping their clients’ freight safe,” said Aqil Naeem, Founder and CEO of E3 Group. The integration therefore focuses not only on detecting potential fraud but also on making the information usable within the operational systems brokers already rely on.

Protecting Freight and Customer Data

Data privacy is another area where Transfix and E3 said their approaches are aligned. Both companies emphasized that broker data remains under the control of the broker. Transfix said it does not resell, pool or trade customer freight data and does not compete with its customers for freight.E3 applies the same principle to the driver information it authenticates.

For freight brokers evaluating fraud prevention and carrier verification solutions, protecting sensitive business information is an important consideration. Proprietary lane history, contract rates and carrier relationships can represent significant competitive assets.Keeping those details protected while incorporating additional fraud prevention capabilities allows brokers to strengthen security without giving up control of their operational data.

A More Connected Approach to Freight Security

The partnership between Transfix and E3 Group reflects a broader shift toward integrating security and fraud prevention directly into transportation management workflows. As freight brokers face increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts, relying on disconnected systems and manual checks can create operational gaps. Bringing authentication directly into the TMS allows risk information to be considered at the same point where freight is being planned and dispatched.

For Direct Traffic Solutions and other brokers using the integrated system, the goal is to make driver verification a routine part of the load lifecycle rather than an additional administrative process. With the E3 integration now live in the Transfix TMS, brokers can authenticate drivers before releasing pickup numbers, access a broader set of risk indicators, maintain an auditable record and manage the process within a single freight management platform.

As freight fraud continues to evolve, the combination of real-time risk scoring, biometric authentication, document analysis and integrated TMS workflows could provide brokers with a more streamlined approach to protecting shipments before they leave the facility.
