SAT Unveils Saudi Arabia’s First Hydrogen-Powered Intercity Bus

In a groundbreaking move to promote environmental sustainability, SAT, a subsidiary of the SABTCO Group, has introduced the first hydrogen-powered intercity bus in Saudi Arabia. The unveiling ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Ahsa, and His Excellency Dr. Rameeh bin Mohammed Al-Rameeh, Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Acting Chairman of the Public Transport Authority, alongside other prominent officials. This innovative project represents a significant advancement in the local transportation sector, underscoring SAT’s dedication to pioneering sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.

The hydrogen-powered bus boasts an impressive range of 635 kilometers on a single charge and can accommodate up to 45 passengers. It is set to operate between the city of Dammam and the Governorate of Al-Ahsa, covering a daily route of 359 kilometers as part of SAT’s intercity transport services in the Southern Region.

HRH Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr highlighted the alignment of this initiative with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes environmental sustainability and the adoption of green technologies across industries. He noted that this step not only contributes to environmental goals but also enhances the quality of life by offering innovative and reliable transportation options.

Dr. Rameeh Al-Rameeh also underscored the significance of this initiative, emphasizing its role within the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. This strategy aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in sustainable transportation solutions, reflecting the Public Transport Authority’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship.

The launch of this hydrogen-powered bus reinforces SABTCO’s leadership in adopting green transportation technologies. It marks a major stride in achieving Saudi Arabia’s ambitious goals of environmental preservation and sustainable development, setting a new standard for clean, efficient, and innovative transport systems in the region.
