Jabil and AVL Collaborate to Enhance Solutions for Automotive and Transportation Customers

Jabil Inc. (NYSE: JBL), a leading global manufacturing solutions provider renowned for serving market-leading automakers, has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with AVL Software and Functions GmbH, a subsidiary of AVL List GmbH and a recognized leader in automotive software and electrified drivetrain development. This landmark agreement marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration aimed at delivering comprehensive, next-generation solutions across the product development lifecycle for the evolving automotive industry.

As the automotive landscape undergoes profound transformation driven by electrification, autonomy, and advanced connectivity, automakers and their suppliers are under increasing pressure to deliver cutting-edge technologies while managing cost, complexity, and time-to-market. The partnership between Jabil and AVL addresses this challenge head-on by bringing together two innovation powerhouses with complementary capabilities and global reach.

A Union of Complementary Strengths

The collaboration will combine Jabil’s decades-long expertise in value engineering, advanced manufacturing processes certified under the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) standards, and global supply chain orchestration with AVL Software and Functions’ deep knowledge of electric drive systems, embedded software, simulation environments, and comprehensive testing services.

AVL Software and Functions GmbH is the electrification and software competence center of AVL List GmbH, the world’s largest independent company for development, simulation, and testing in the automotive sector. With deep-rooted experience in functional safety, model-based system engineering, and powertrain development, AVL’s Regensburg-based unit plays a pivotal role in enabling the industry’s transition to clean mobility and intelligent vehicle architectures.

Jabil, on the other hand, brings to the table its vast global manufacturing footprint, robust engineering support capabilities, and a proven track record of helping original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers scale complex technologies from design through production. With IATF 16949-certified facilities and capabilities in high-reliability electronics manufacturing, Jabil is well-positioned to complement AVL’s innovation pipeline with industrial scalability and supply chain resilience.

A Shared Vision for the Future of Mobility

Under the terms of the non-exclusive MOU, the two companies will explore joint offerings that span the entire lifecycle of automotive product development—from concept and prototyping to testing, validation, and series production. Initial focus areas include advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), intelligent control units, power electronics, high-voltage battery management systems, and electric drive technologies.

The goal is to provide integrated, end-to-end solutions that reduce product development risk, accelerate commercialization, and enhance the overall value proposition for OEMs and Tier 1 automotive suppliers. Through their complementary services and shared commitment to innovation and quality, Jabil and AVL aim to streamline the transition to software-defined vehicles and sustainable transportation platforms.

“As vehicle technology becomes increasingly complex and software-driven, automotive and transportation brands require seamless, strategic design and manufacturing support across the entire product lifecycle,” said April Butterfield, Senior Vice President of Engineering at Jabil. “Working together, Jabil and AVL will bring enhanced capabilities to our customers that support faster time-to-market, improved cost structures, and reduced supply chain complexity.”

This strategic alignment reflects a broader industry shift toward more collaborative ecosystems in which engineering and manufacturing partners co-develop solutions to overcome increasingly technical and regulatory challenges. By pooling their respective competencies, Jabil and AVL intend to drive more agile innovation cycles and deliver smarter, safer, and more sustainable mobility solutions.

Empowering OEMs and Tier 1s

The MOU signifies a clear intent from both parties to support their automotive customers as they navigate complex transitions—including the move from internal combustion engine (ICE) architectures to electric drivetrains, the integration of sophisticated sensor suites, and the shift toward centralized, software-defined vehicle platforms.

The collaboration is also expected to support development in crucial areas such as:

  • Electrified Powertrain Technologies: AVL’s expertise in inverter design, motor control, and battery management will be integrated with Jabil’s capability to mass-produce high-reliability electronic assemblies. This combination will be critical in enabling OEMs to develop efficient, scalable electric vehicle (EV) platforms.
  • Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS): Sensor fusion, embedded control algorithms, and perception technologies are rapidly becoming foundational to new vehicle designs. By joining forces, AVL and Jabil can co-develop next-generation ADAS solutions, offering faster prototyping and industrial scalability.
  • High-Performance Computing (HPC) Modules: As vehicles increasingly rely on centralized computing platforms for real-time decision-making, both companies are poised to co-develop and manufacture powerful on-board computing modules designed to meet automotive-grade safety and performance standards.
  • Simulation and Digital Twins: AVL’s simulation environments and digital twin capabilities will enable faster iteration and validation of design concepts, significantly reducing the physical testing burden and accelerating development timelines.
A Global Footprint for Global Customers

The non-exclusive nature of the MOU ensures that both Jabil and AVL can maintain the flexibility to serve a diverse client base while enhancing their collective ability to address large-scale automotive programs. Through their combined global presence, the partnership is uniquely positioned to support vehicle programs across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific—regions where the race toward electrification and autonomy is most pronounced.

Anton Angermaier, Managing Director of AVL Software and Functions GmbH, emphasized the cultural and technical alignment between the two companies: “We’re excited to work alongside Jabil to combine our decades of experience in innovation, automotive processes, and product engineering with outstanding manufacturing know-how. Our complementary cultures and skillsets will drive exceptional value and pioneering solutions for the industry.”

Both companies also stress the importance of agility and responsiveness in the face of dynamic market demands. As vehicle programs increasingly involve tight schedules, evolving regulations, and the need for rapid technological adaptation, the AVL-Jabil collaboration seeks to deliver the flexibility and resilience automotive customers require to remain competitive.

While the MOU represents a framework for strategic cooperation, both companies plan to begin exploring tangible joint projects in the near term, with early engagements expected to focus on fast-growing segments such as electric powertrain integration and autonomous vehicle system validation.

As automakers continue to reimagine the vehicle as a software-centric, electrified platform, the value of integrated partnerships like that of Jabil and AVL will only grow. By leveraging each other’s strengths in innovation and industrial execution, the two companies are not only addressing current customer needs but also helping shape the future of the automotive industry.

Through this strategic collaboration, Jabil and AVL reaffirm their shared commitment to enabling a new era of smart, connected, and electrified mobility—delivered at scale and with uncompromising quality.
