Porter Airlines Launches First Direct Toronto–Nassau Flight

Porter Airlines Expands Its International Network With New Toronto–Nassau Service, Strengthening Travel Links Between Canada and The Bahamas

Porter Airlines has officially launched roundtrip service between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Nassau, The Bahamas (NAS), marking a significant expansion of the airline’s growing international network. The introduction of this route underscores Porter’s strategic push into popular southern leisure markets, including Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Cayman Islands. As one of several new services being inaugurated this season, the Toronto–Nassau route aims to offer Canadian travelers more convenient, comfortable, and high-quality options for escaping winter and experiencing the vibrant cultural and natural beauty of The Bahamas.

This new service further reinforces Porter’s long-term ambition to redefine economy air travel through an elevated passenger experience featuring premium touches, sustainable aircraft technology, and a rapidly expanding roster of sun destination routes.

A Major Addition to Porter’s Winter Sun Schedule

The Toronto–Nassau route begins with roundtrip service starting today, but the schedule quickly ramps up to meet high seasonal demand. Porter will increase the frequency to daily flights beginning December 12, ensuring ample travel options during peak winter vacation months. This expansion not only supports rising passenger interest in Caribbean destinations but also strengthens connectivity from Canada’s largest metropolitan region.

Porter Airlines is also spreading access across more of its eastern Canadian network. Nonstop flights from Ottawa to Nassau will begin on December 13, followed by service from Montreal beginning February 5. With these additions, travelers from Canada’s three largest cities—Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal—can reach The Bahamas more easily than ever before. This improved connectivity enhances the tourism pipeline between both nations, benefiting Canadian travelers seeking tropical getaways and the Bahamian tourism sector aiming to attract more long-haul visitors.

Comfort-Forward Travel on the Embraer E195-E2 Fleet

All flights on the new Nassau route will be operated using Porter’s modern Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. Known for its efficiency, lower emissions, and quiet performance, the E195-E2 is central to Porter’s expanding network strategy. The aircraft seats 132 passengers in a two-by-two configuration, meaning Porter maintains its signature promise: no middle seats for anyone.

This seating layout is a hallmark of Porter’s elevated economy proposition, offering a more spacious and comfortable experience compared to the typical narrow-body aircraft layouts used by other carriers. Every passenger also enjoys free, fast onboard Wi-Fi, giving travelers the ability to stream content, browse social media, or stay connected with work while in the air.

Since its founding in 2006, Porter Airlines has distinguished itself by delivering a boutique, high-quality experience traditionally associated with premium carriers—without premium prices. The airline’s well-loved offerings include complimentary beer and wine served in real glassware and a selection of premium Canadian snacks, helping passengers begin their vacation feeling refreshed and relaxed.

PorterReserve and PorterClassic: Flexible Fare Options for Modern Travelers

Porter continues to expand its service model by offering two fare categories designed to meet different traveler needs: PorterReserve and PorterClassic.

PorterReserve, the airline’s all-inclusive fare class, delivers an enhanced airport and inflight experience. Key benefits include:

  • Ticketing flexibility
  • Dedicated airport check-in counters
  • Priority boarding
  • Two complimentary checked bags
  • Extra legroom seats in the front of the aircraft
  • High-quality, freshly prepared meals
  • Premium pre-mixed cocktails

This option is aimed at travelers seeking a seamless, high-comfort journey from the moment they arrive at the airport to their final destination.

Meanwhile, PorterClassic offers more affordable fares with the option to add premium services à la carte. Passengers can choose only the enhancements they value—extra legroom, checked baggage, or in-flight dining—making travel customizable and budget-friendly.

Loyalty Rewards for Frequent Travelers

VIPorter loyalty members can take advantage of attractive redemption rates when flying to sun destinations such as Nassau. Travelers can redeem flights starting from just 10,000 points one way, providing strong value for those collecting points through regular travel or partner promotions.

With winter network covering Mexico, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Florida, Arizona, and California, VIPorter members now have an expanded range of warm-weather destinations to choose from at competitive point levels.

Strengthening Tourism and Economic Links Between Canada and The Bahamas

The launch of new service has been met with enthusiasm across both the Canadian aviation sector and the Bahamian tourism industry. Leaders from both regions highlighted the importance of direct air links for boosting tourism, economic activity, and cultural exchange.

Edmond Eldebs, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Porter Airlines, emphasized the airline’s commitment to offering a better travel experience to Nassau.

Porter is now the better way of getting to The Bahamas. Our distinct approach to service, with genuine, warm hospitality, means that passengers can enter vacation mode long before landing in Nassau. This is the first of multiple routes that we’re launching this season that will bring Canada and The Bahamas closer together.

From the Bahamian government’s perspective, the introduction of service represents a valuable enhancement to the nation’s air travel network. The Hon. I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, noted the significant economic and tourism benefits:

Every new connection creates opportunities for our people, our communities, and our partners across the islands. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with Porter Airlines as we continue to position The Bahamas as a leading destination for travellers from Canada and around the world.

Joy Jibrilu, CEO of the Nassau & Paradise Island Promotion Board, echoed this optimism:

The launch of Porter’s new routes from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal is a powerful vote of confidence in our destination and the strength of the Canadian market. innovative and forward-thinking approach brings new energy, new options, and added confidence to the market.

Airport authorities also acknowledged the importance of this new link. Vernice Walkine, President & CEO of the Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD), noted that the Toronto–Nassau service enhances connectivity and supports growth across the wider Canadian market.

This new nonstop service from Toronto strengthens connectivity between Nassau and the Greater Toronto Area.

Finally, representatives from Toronto Pearson welcomed ongoing international expansion from Canada’s busiest airport.

As the leading Canadian gateway to Nassau, this new service strengthens our commitment to over 120,000 passengers who travel between the two cities each year.

A Milestone in Porter’s Evolving International Strategy

The launch of Toronto–Nassau route is much more than just a new connection. It represents a key step in the airline’s broader strategy to:

  • Expand internationally
  • Establish itself as a premium economy leader
  • Serve more high-demand leisure markets
  • Strengthen partnerships across North America and the Caribbean

With its state-of-the-art Embraer fleet, distinctive onboard service, and flexible fare structures, Porter continues to reshape the expectations of North American air travelers.
