Enhanced Performance, Modernized Cabin, and Pilot-Centric Innovations Set New Benchmark for Citation Gen2 Family
Textron Aviation Inc., a Textron Inc. company, has officially announced that the highly anticipated Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2 has entered into service, marking a significant evolution in the Citation family of light business jets. This latest iteration of the CJ3 series introduces a suite of advanced features, customer-driven enhancements, and operational efficiencies designed to deliver a superior flying experience for both pilots and passengers.Launch customers and seasoned Citation owners Dave Mecartney and Assign received delivery of their new CJ3 Gen2 aircraft this week. Customer-Driven Design Enhancements
Certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in October 2025, the CJ3 Gen2 incorporates a wide range of improvements derived from direct customer feedback, collected through Textron Aviation’s Customer Advisory Board. The board, composed of owners, pilots, and maintenance professionals, contributed detailed insights that influenced every aspect of the aircraft’s design—from cockpit ergonomics to cabin comfort.
Shannon Day, a long-time Citation owner, highlighted the advantages of the CJ3 Gen2 over its competitors. After careful evaluation, we found no other entry-level jet offering the same combination of handling, service and support, training, and reliability,” Day said. “Choosing the CJ3 Gen2 was an easy decision. Features like Garmin autothrottles, an externally serviceable lavatory, and expanded legroom make it a natural progression in my aviation journey.”
Advanced Cockpit and Avionics Systems
The CJ3 Gen2 cockpit has been upgraded to provide an additional 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) of legroom, improving pilot comfort and ease of movement before and after flight. The aircraft features a fully integrated Garmin G3000 avionics suite, offering state-of-the-art capabilities designed to reduce pilot workload and enhance operational efficiency. Key avionics upgrades include:
- Garmin Autothrottles: Automates thrust control to improve flight precision and reduce pilot workload while providing robust flight-envelope protection.
- Garmin Touchscreen Controllers: Intuitive interface that allows pilots to interact seamlessly with aircraft systems and navigation.
- GDL60 Co: Are
These enhancements not only streamline cockpit operations but also provide pilots with increased confidence and situational awareness during all phases of flight.
Customizable Cabin and Passenger Comfort
Textron Aviation has paid special attention to passenger comfort in the CJ3 Gen2. The fully customizable cabin allows owners to tailor seating configurations, materials, and amenities to meet specific mission requirements. With seating for up to ten occupants, the CJ3 Gen2 balances luxury with functionality, making it ideal for business, leisure, or multi-mission operations.
Additional passenger-focused upgrades include an externally serviceable lavatory, designed to simplify ground handling and reduce turnaround times. These refinements ensure that both pilots and passengers experience maximum convenience and comfort throughout their journeys.
Proven Performance and Reliability
The Citation CJ3 Gen2 offers impressive operational capabilities, with a maximum range of 2,040 already and a payload capacity of 2,135 lbs (968.4 kg). These specifications make it well-suited for a variety of missions, including regional travel, business trips, and specialized operations in diverse environments.
For longtime Citation owner Dave Mecartney, the CJ3 Gen2 represents a continuation of a trusted relationship with the brand. “As a Citation owner since 2007, I’ve always valued Textron Aviation’s heritage of reliability, service, and support,” Mecartney said. “The aftermarket support network is responsive, efficient, and dependable, which is invaluable for owner-pilots. Choosing the CJ3 Gen2 felt like a natural step in my aviation journey.”
