Abu Dhabi Airports Selects BETA Technologies’ Charge Infrastructure for emirate’s Advanced Air Mobility Network

Abu Dhabi Airports Partners with BETA Technologies to Deploy Certified Charging Infrastructure for the Emirate’s Growing Advanced Air Mobility Network

Abu Dhabi Airports has taken a decisive step toward shaping the future of aviation in the United Arab Emirates by entering into a landmark agreement with U.S.-based aerospace innovator BETA Technologies (NYSE: BETA). Through this partnership, BETA Technologies will deploy its certified Charge Cube system and advanced Battery Thermal Management System across Abu Dhabi as the emirate accelerates its plans to build a comprehensive advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem. The collaboration underscores Abu Dhabi’s ambition to become one of the world’s leading hubs for next-generation air transportation and electric aviation.

Earlier this year, Abu Dhabi Airports received an official mandate tasking the organization with leading the planning, development, and implementation of public AAM infrastructure. This mandate includes overseeing vertiport development, establishing operational frameworks, and ensuring commercial readiness as the emirate prepares for the introduction of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. As part of this responsibility, the company has selected BETA Technologies’ electric charging and thermal management solutions as the foundational hardware for its first two vertiport locations: Al Bateen Executive Airport (AZI) and Zayed International Airport (AUH). These sites will serve as the launch points for the UAE’s first commercial air mobility routes.

BETA Technologies will play a central role in enabling this next phase of aviation. The agreement covers the deployment of the company’s Charge Cube — the world’s first certified charging system designed specifically for electric aircraft — along with its proprietary Battery Thermal Management System, which ensures safe, efficient, and optimal performance during charging cycles. Beyond supplying equipment, BETA will also provide essential technical expertise. This includes onsite consulting for equipment installation, integration support, ongoing maintenance, and training to ensure that Abu Dhabi Airports’ operational teams are fully prepared for the introduction of eVTOL services.

The first charging installation has already been commissioned at Al Bateen Executive Airport, marking the beginning of Abu Dhabi’s on-the-ground AAM infrastructure rollout. Installation at Zayed International Airport is scheduled to follow shortly. With the UAE expecting to launch its initial eVTOL flights in 2026, these deployments signal that the emirate is on track to meet its ambitious timeline. Abu Dhabi Airports has also outlined a phased plan to expand the network further, with more than ten public vertiports set to be strategically positioned across key urban, commercial, and transit hubs throughout the emirate.

Chad Nichols, Charge Operations Lead at BETA Technologies, emphasized the significance of this partnership and the broader momentum within the electric aviation industry. “BETA is excited to continue the international deployment of our charging solutions. We believe this commitment to permanent ground infrastructure shows the strength and momentum of our industry,” he said. “Our solution remains the world’s first and only certified electric aviation charging and thermal management system, and we are proud to work closely with Abu Dhabi Airports to deploy this technology throughout the region to support electric flights.”

Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, highlighted the strategic importance of integrating reliable charging technology into the emirate’s aviation modernization plans. “Our collaboration with BETA ensures the robust infrastructure needed to make Abu Dhabi’s air taxi network a commercial reality — safe, sustainable, and built for the future,” she stated. Sorlini underscored that establishing dependable ground systems is essential not only for operational readiness but also for gaining public confidence in the viability of electric air travel.

Airport connectivity is considered the cornerstone of any functional AAM ecosystem. By deploying BETA’s advanced charging infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Airports is taking the crucial first step in creating a seamless, interoperable network capable of supporting diverse electric aviation needs. BETA’s multimodal, interoperable technology makes it possible to power not only eVTOL aircraft but also electric ground vehicles, which enhances the flexibility and long-term scalability of the system. This approach aligns with global industry trends that favor adaptable, cross-platform charging solutions that can evolve as new aircraft models and mobility technologies emerge.

The introduction of BETA Technologies’ infrastructure in Abu Dhabi also marks a significant milestone in the company’s global expansion strategy. BETA currently operates a growing charge network of more than 50 sites across the United States and Canada, and its partnership with Abu Dhabi Airports represents one of its most prominent international deployments to date. By extending its certified charging systems into the Middle East, BETA is contributing to the establishment of a global framework for electric aviation, one that enables cross-border interoperability and accelerates global adoption of sustainable mobility solutions.

For the UAE, this partnership is more than a technological upgrade — it is an investment in an economic and environmental future aligned with the nation’s long-term strategic goals. Electric aviation plays an increasingly vital role in achieving sustainability targets, enhancing transportation efficiency, and supporting the UAE’s broader innovation-driven development strategies. The move also complements Abu Dhabi’s plans to diversify its economy, attract next-generation industries, and position itself as a global center for advanced mobility solutions.

With the first eVTOL flights projected for 2026, Abu Dhabi is rapidly moving from planning to implementation. The deployment of BETA Technologies’ charging systems represents a crucial step toward realizing a fully operational air taxi network capable of connecting airports, urban centers, and major destinations with unprecedented convenience and environmental efficiency. The partnership stands as a testament to the emirate’s commitment to pioneering the next wave of aviation technology and shaping a world-leading AAM ecosystem.
