
ArcBest Expands ABF Freight Fleet with Addition of Tesla Semi Trucks Following Successful Pilot Program
ArcBest, a leading integrated logistics provider, has announced the acquisition of two Class 8 Tesla Semi trucks for deployment within its less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier ABF Freight®. The pilot primarily focused on the Reno–Sacramento corridor, allowing the company to evaluate the trucks under controlled but commercially relevant conditions.

This broader operational footprint is designed to test the electric trucks under more diverse and demanding conditions, including variations in terrain, distance, cargo mix, and weather. During the 2025 pilot program, the Tesla Semi achieved an average energy efficiency of approximately 1.55 kilowatt-hours per mile. For a Class 8 vehicle operating in real-world freight conditions, this level of efficiency was considered a strong performance indicator. However, ArcBest noted that results may vary as the trucks are deployed across a wider range of routes and operational conditions.
The company expects that expanded usage will provide a more complete picture of energy consumption patterns, charging behavior, and overall fleet integration challenges.
