CSX Introduces New Leaders to Strengthen Executive Team

CSX Strengthens Executive Leadership Team with Key Appointments to Drive Long-Term Growth and Operational Excellence

CSX Corporation, a leading North American transportation company, today announced a series of executive leadership changes designed to strengthen its strategic focus, reinforce its operational excellence, and advance its long-term growth objectives. These appointments reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to developing world-class talent and ensuring a seamless transition as it continues to deliver exceptional value for customers, shareholders, and employees.

Effective immediately, Kevin Boone has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Sean Pelkey, who is departing the company after a long and distinguished career. In addition, Maryclare Kenney has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, assuming oversight of CSX’s commercial strategy, customer engagement, and market development initiatives.

CEO Steve Angel on the Appointments

In announcing the leadership changes, Steve Angel, President and Chief Executive Officer of CSX, underscored the importance of strong, experienced leadership in driving the company’s transformation and long-term success.

“I am pleased to appoint Kevin and Maryclare to these critical leadership roles,” Angel said. “They are the right leaders at the right time to build on our momentum and position CSX for sustained success. Their deep expertise, operational insight, and commitment to excellence will be instrumental as we continue advancing a high-performance culture and realizing our vision of becoming the best-performing railroad in the nation.”

Angel also expressed gratitude to outgoing CFO Sean Pelkey for his many contributions to the company’s success.

“We thank Sean for his many years of dedicated service to CSX and sincerely wish him well in his future endeavors,” Angel added. “His leadership and financial stewardship helped guide the company through both challenges and opportunities, setting a strong foundation for the future.”

Kevin Boone: A Seasoned Financial and Strategic Leader

Kevin Boone, who steps into the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of CSX’s financial and operational landscape. Boone joined CSX in 2017 and has since held several key executive positions that have provided him with a comprehensive view of the company’s business and its role in the broader transportation industry.

Most recently, Boone served as Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, where he played a central role in driving revenue growth, enhancing customer relationships, and expanding CSX’s market presence. His leadership in commercial strategy was critical during a period of evolving market conditions and increased competition in the logistics sector.

Boone previously served as CSX’s Chief Financial Officer from 2019 to 2021, a tenure marked by his steady guidance during the global COVID-19 pandemic—a time of significant supply chain disruption and economic uncertainty. Under his financial leadership, CSX maintained strong liquidity, disciplined cost control, and continued capital investment in key infrastructure projects, ensuring operational resilience and long-term shareholder value.

Before joining CSX, Boone spent nearly two decades in the investment industry, where he specialized in finance, accounting, and mergers and acquisitions. His experience included analyzing large transportation, industrial, and infrastructure companies—expertise that has proven invaluable in his leadership at CSX. Boone’s analytical acumen and ability to balance strategic investments with fiscal discipline have made him a respected figure both within the company and across the broader financial community.

As CFO, Boone will oversee CSX’s financial planning, capital allocation, investor relations, and strategic growth initiatives. He is expected to play a key role in advancing the company’s modernization efforts, optimizing financial performance, and strengthening CSX’s position as a market leader in the rail industry.

Maryclare Kenney: Driving Commercial Growth and Customer Success

Maryclare Kenney’s promotion to Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer underscores CSX’s commitment to building a customer-focused and growth-oriented organization. Kenney has been a cornerstone of CSX’s commercial team for nearly 14 years, consistently delivering results and fostering strong relationships with customers across multiple industries.

In her previous role, Kenney was responsible for leading Merchandise Sales and Marketing, TRANSFLO, Automotive, and Total Distribution Services, Inc. (TDSI)—divisions that collectively represent significant components of CSX’s business portfolio. Her leadership has been characterized by a focus on innovation, collaboration, and operational reliability, which have contributed to record levels of customer satisfaction and network efficiency.

Earlier in her career at CSX, Kenney served as Vice President of Intermodal and Automotive, where she played a pivotal role in expanding the company’s intermodal footprint, improving service reliability, and optimizing pricing strategies in line with market dynamics. Her initiatives have helped CSX strengthen its position in the growing intermodal sector, a key component of North America’s integrated freight network.

Prior to joining CSX in 2011, Kenney built a strong foundation in leadership and strategy during her time at PepsiCo, where she held various sales and management positions that sharpened her skills in customer engagement and organizational development. Before her corporate career, Kenney served honorably in the United States Army for seven years, achieving the rank of Captain. Her military experience instilled in her a strong sense of discipline, teamwork, and mission-driven leadership—qualities that continue to define her approach to business.

In her new role as Chief Commercial Officer, Kenney will lead CSX’s enterprise-wide commercial organization, with a mandate to accelerate revenue growth, expand market share, and deepen partnerships with customers across the rail, intermodal, and logistics sectors. She will also oversee the development of innovative service offerings that enhance CSX’s value proposition in an increasingly digital and competitive logistics marketplace.

A Unified Vision for the Future

The leadership transitions announced today come at a pivotal time for CSX, as the company continues to execute its strategic initiatives focused on operational excellence, sustainable growth, and digital innovation. The appointments of Boone and Kenney align with CSX’s long-term strategy to leverage its strong network, industry expertise, and customer partnerships to deliver consistent, high-quality service while generating superior returns.

“I look forward to partnering with these dynamic leaders as we continue developing a strong pipeline of talent and making CSX the standard of operational success in the railroad industry,” Angel said. “Our people are our greatest asset, and with leaders like Kevin and Maryclare at the helm, I am confident that CSX will continue to set the benchmark for performance, innovation, and customer service.”

The company’s 20,000-mile rail network serves major population centers, manufacturing hubs, ports, and agricultural regions, offering environmentally efficient and cost-effective shipping solutions.

With a commitment to safety, innovation, and customer satisfaction, CSX continues to invest in technology and infrastructure that enhance the reliability, capacity, and sustainability of its operations.
