Electreon has achieved a significant milestone by completing the development of an innovative wireless charging station designed for stationary urban electric buses (e-buses). This groundbreaking technology represents a global first in wireless charging, offering a transformative solution for efficient and convenient e-bus charging. The completed commercial project has been delivered to Electra Afikim, a prominent public transportation operator in Israel. Situated in Rosh HaAyin, at the heart of the country, the wireless charging terminal facilitates stationary charging for e-buses both day and night, utilizing a distributed energy model at designated parking bays within the public bus terminal.
Oren Ezer, the CEO of Electreon, expressed excitement about the completion of a groundbreaking wireless charging terminal project for electric buses in Israel. He highlighted the significance of introducing the first-of-its-kind wireless charging facility, providing efficient, cost-effective, and space-saving solutions for public transit buses in busy urban areas. The innovative terminal operates throughout the day and night, serving the public in the Petah Tikva and Rosh HaAyin regions as part of regular public transportation services.
Electreon took charge of the entire project, managing the end-to-end process, including electrical infrastructure, necessary approvals, and civil engineering works. The company implemented its advanced charging software platform to remotely oversee and manage the wireless charging of the fleet vehicles at the terminal.
In a significant partnership, Electreon collaborated with three leading international bus manufacturers—Electra Afikim, HIGER, Ankai, and Sunwin. These manufacturers seamlessly integrated Electreon’s vehicle receivers into their electric buses, with HIGER and Ankai completing the full European Union’s (EU) WVTA approval process. This marks a significant step toward establishing Electreon’s wireless electric bus receiver as an off-the-shelf product available to the entire automotive industry.
The fully commercial project, valued at approximately 5.8 million ILS (approximately 1.6 million USD) for 2023, covers payments for software services, operations, and maintenance throughout the project’s duration. Electra Afikim, a major public transportation operator in Israel, manages around 500 bus service lines across the country, covering 40 million miles annually and transporting 51 million passengers.
During the project launch event, attended by the Minister of Transport, Oren Ezer expressed gratitude to Electra Afikim, the Ministry of Transportation, and the National Road Safety Authority for selecting their solution. He anticipates widespread benefits from the technology, envisioning Israel as a leader in implementing sustainable transportation technologies.
Tal Cohen, CEO of Electra Afikim, welcomed being the first company to operate a fleet of electric buses with Electreon’s technology. He expressed appreciation for the cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation, Rosh HaAyin Municipality, and Electreon in operating smart and advanced transportation.
Rosh HaAyin Mayor Shalom Ben Moshe highlighted the city’s commitment to green public transportation, aiming to reduce air pollution and improve residents’ quality of life. He thanked the Ministry of Transportation for supporting their vision of wireless charging and expressed confidence that the innovative electric buses would serve the residents well.
This milestone underscores Electreon’s technological prowess and its pivotal role in transforming the global electric mobility landscape with its innovative and sustainable technology. The successful completion of this stationary wireless charging project adds to the company’s series of technical and commercial successes, showcasing its vision to empower seamless, sustainable, and decarbonized transportation globally. Recent achievements, including winning tenders in France and setting wireless alignment standards with SAE, highlight Electreon’s growing market traction and its commitment to a sustainable future.
About Electreon
Electreon is the leading developer and provider of wireless charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), providing end-to-end charging infrastructure and services, to meet the needs and efficiency demands of shared, public, and commercial fleet operators and consumers.
