The company announced that it has already secured conditional purchase agreements and options totaling 450 aircraft, signaling strong early confidence from airline customers and positioning EVIO as a serious new contender in the global regional aircraft market.

Targeted to enter commercial service in the early 2030s, the EVIO 810 is being developed with financial and technical backing from Boeing and in close collaboration with Pratt & Whitney Canada, a subsidiary of RTX, which is supporting the development of the aircraft’s advanced propulsion system. Together, these partnerships provide EVIO with deep aerospace expertise, credibility, and access to proven propulsion technologies as it works to bring a next-generation hybrid-electric aircraft to market.

A Clean-Sheet Aircraft for a Changing Regional Market

EVIO’s aircraft has been conceived from the ground up to address structural challenges facing the regional aviation sector. For several years, the company has been quietly developing a clean-sheet design aimed squarely at the 50- to 100-seat segment, a market that is increasingly constrained by aging fleets, rising operating costs, and growing pressure to reduce emissions.

Unlike incremental upgrades to existing turboprops or regional jets, the EVIO 810 has been designed to introduce a fundamentally new level of operational efficiency. The aircraft’s hybrid-electric architecture is intended to significantly lower fuel burn, reduce maintenance costs, and support future emissions regulations, while maintaining the range and performance required for high-frequency regional operations.

Beyond passenger transport, the EVIO 810 has also been engineered with cargo, logistics, and defense applications in mind. The propulsion system under development with Pratt & Whitney Canada leverages the proven performance and reliability of the PT6E engine, while integrating electric components that allow for optimized power management across different phases of flight. This architecture is designed to maximize efficiency during high-power-demand phases such as takeoff and climb, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions during cruise and descent.

By combining conventional turbine power with electric propulsion, EVIO aims to offer airlines a practical pathway toward electrification without compromising operational flexibility. The design also positions the aircraft to benefit from future advances in battery energy density and electric motor technology over its lifecycle.

Early Market Validation and Order Momentum

EVIO’s public debut builds on meaningful commercial momentum. In 2023, the company secured conditional purchase agreements for 250 aircraft from two major airlines, along with options for an additional 200 units, bringing total commitments to 450 aircraft. While the identities of the airline customers have not been disclosed, the scale of the agreements reflects a strong appetite for a new solution in the regional market.

According to EVIO, these early commitments validate both the aircraft’s technical concept and its economic rationale. Regional airlines are under increasing pressure from fuel price volatility, pilot shortages, and maintenance costs associated with aging fleets. At the same time, many operators are struggling to maintain profitability on short-haul routes that remain essential for regional connectivity.

EVIO estimates that total demand in the 50- to 100-seat category could exceed 7,500 aircraft over the next two decades, accounting for both replacement needs and growth in regional connectivity. The imbalance between retirements and new aircraft deliveries has already had a measurable impact on global fleets.

Over the past five years alone, approximately 2,650 regional aircraft have been retired, while only about 750 new aircraft have entered service, resulting in a 27% reduction in the global regional fleet. This contraction has occurred despite sustained demand for short-haul flights, highlighting a structural gap between market needs and available aircraft solutions.

Regional Aviation Demand Remains Strong

Despite the shrinking fleet, demand for regional air travel remains robust. According to EVIO’s analysis of data from travel intelligence provider OAG, there are approximately 47,000 regional flights per day under 500 miles, out of roughly 100,000 total daily flights worldwide.

These short-haul routes play a critical role in global air transport networks, connecting smaller communities to major hubs and supporting economic development. However, many of these routes are increasingly difficult to operate profitably with existing aircraft types, particularly as fuel and labor costs rise.

EVIO believes its hybrid-electric aircraft can help reverse this trend by lowering operating costs and enabling airlines to restore or expand regional networks that have been scaled back in recent years.
