Since 2007, the airline’s employee volunteer group, “Sarang Nanumhoe,” has traveled annually to Cambodia to support communities in need. This year, from September 10 to 15, the group continued its tradition of service in the Tram Khnar region, demonstrating continuity, commitment, and genuine care for the local people.

The 2025 mission focused on improving the infrastructure and educational opportunities for children in the area. Volunteers repaired drainage systems at a local school, ensuring that students have a safer, cleaner, and more sustainable learning environment. They also held creative workshops, teaching music and art to children, many of whom have limited access to extracurricular educational resources. These sessions gave students a chance to express themselves, discover talents, and build confidence through creativity.

In addition to infrastructure and education, cultural exchange played an important role in the mission. Volunteers introduced local residents to Korean cuisine by preparing and serving traditional dishes such as japchae (stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables and meat) and kimchi-jjigae (spicy kimchi stew). Sharing meals became an opportunity for connection, giving Cambodian families an authentic taste of Korean culture while strengthening bonds across borders.

For the “Sarang Nanumhoe” volunteers, the trip to Cambodia was not just about providing aid but about building friendships and understanding between cultures. On August 30, the “Sanasa” volunteer group from Korean Air’s Bucheon maintenance facility organized a special day out for 70 children and their teachers from Incheon community centers. Many of the children came from single-parent or grandparent-led households, where opportunities for recreational outings are often limited.

The volunteers hosted a trip to a local water park, giving the children a chance to enjoy themselves, laugh, and build memories in a fun and safe environment. For many participants, the experience was not just about entertainment but also about feeling cared for and valued by their broader community. Teachers accompanying the children emphasized how meaningful such initiatives are, helping the kids feel included and giving them opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.

For the Korean Air volunteers, the day was equally rewarding.
