Fujitec Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6406) has become the first Japanese company to receive certification for elevator maintenance using remote monitoring in Singapore. The certification was granted through its subsidiary, Fujitec Singapore Corporation Ltd., under new regulations established by the Singapore government to enhance elevator sustainability in high-rise buildings.
Background
In Singapore, where space is limited and high-rise buildings are prevalent, elevators are a vital part of the infrastructure. The government has implemented various initiatives to ensure the proper maintenance of these elevators, earning the country a reputation for advanced elevator management. To improve efficiency and address the growing shortage of skilled engineers due to an aging workforce, the Singapore government has introduced innovative measures.
New Regulations
In August 2022, the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) introduced new regulations requiring the use of remote monitoring for elevator maintenance. These regulations aim to increase efficiency by reducing the frequency of manual inspections from monthly to quarterly, provided the elevators pass a six-month functional evaluation. The regulations also call for 24/7 monitoring of operational status and early detection of potential malfunctions.
Certified System
Fujitec’s remote monitoring system, “Elemori,” was certified in July 2024 under Singapore’s “Code of Practice for Design and Performance of Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics Solution for Lifts” (COP).
Fujitec Singapore’s Role
Fujitec Singapore obtained certification for the elevators managed by the government agency Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) by upgrading its remote monitoring system and refurbishing control panels. A new application was also developed for building managers to track the operational status of the elevators. Fujitec Singapore plans to expand the system’s deployment to improve efficiency and help alleviate the labor shortage among maintenance engineers.
By implementing this advanced system, Fujitec continues to strengthen its presence in Singapore’s growing market for elevator maintenance.
