Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is delighted to announce Grupo México Transportes as the latest partner in the CG Railway, LLC joint venture. Pending regulatory approvals, GMXT is set to acquire equity interests in CGR, marking an exciting development in this strategic partnership.
G&W initiated a joint venture with SEACOR Holdings Inc. in 2017 to manage CG Railway (CGR), facilitating rail-ferry services between Mobile, Alabama, and Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, across the Gulf of Mexico since 2001. Recently, GMXT expressed its intent to acquire SEACOR’s CGR stake, positioning itself as G&W’s new joint venture partner.
Michael Miller, CEO for G&W North America, notes, “This solidifies our collaboration with GMXT, a prominent player in Mexican rail services, with a robust presence in the southern U.S. across 13 ports. The combination of GMXT’s network access and expertise, along with G&W’s commitment to safe and customer-centric rail service, will elevate CGR’s offerings, extending its efficient and secure rail service into and out of Mexico.”
CGR boasts a three-day port-to-port transit time, streamlined customs clearance, and minimal exposure to pilferage during Gulf of Mexico transit, further enhancing its service advantages.
