Geoquip Marine, a global leader in offshore geotechnical solutions and part of the Njord Partners portfolio, has expanded its fleet with the addition of a seventh vessel. The Geoquip Silvretta, originally built as a platform supply vessel by Green Yard Kleven, is currently undergoing a conversion in Norway to become a cutting-edge geotechnical services platform designed for the offshore energy sector.
This conversion, set to be completed by spring 2025, will see the installation of Geoquip’s largest drilling rig, the GMTR150. Known for its efficiency and reliability, the GMTR150 will help minimize the vessel’s carbon footprint and fuel consumption, while enabling high-quality geotechnical site investigations in a variety of sea conditions. Upon completion, the Geoquip Silvretta will be deployed for a project in northern Europe, ready to tackle the most challenging metocean conditions.
The newest addition to the Geoquip fleet was originally built as a DP2 vessel, and no changes will be made to the propulsion, main components, or machinery. However, Green Yard will collaborate with the vessel’s original designer, Marin Teknikk AS, to customize the interior for Geoquip’s global operations. The upgrades will include the installation of a moonpool, repositioning and adding cranes, expanding the shelter deck, increasing office and meeting spaces, and constructing a new accommodation block.
To further reduce energy consumption, the conversion will incorporate energy-efficient LED lighting and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems with heat recovery. In line with sustainability goals, the conversion will prioritize the reuse and recertification of existing components to minimize waste. Steel removed during the installation of the moonpool will be recycled locally in Norway, while new components will be made from high-scrap-content European steel.
