Indian Patent Office Grants Patent Approval to Rail Vision

Rail Vision Ltd., a pioneering technology company reshaping railway safety and the data-driven market, proudly announces the recent patent approval granted by the Indian Patent Office.

The patent, titled “SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OBJECT AND OBSTACLE DETECTION AND CLASSIFICATION IN COLLISION AVOIDANCE OF RAILWAY APPLICATIONS,” has already received approval in the US and Japan, while awaiting clearance in Europe and China.

Focusing on the detection and identification of objects and obstacles in proximity to railways, the patented method employs forward-looking imagers covering various vision ranges and is sensitive to different wavelengths of radiation. Electro-optic sensors, including thermal infrared imaging and visible band imaging sensors, are employed for real-time surveying and monitoring of railway scenes.

Rail Vision’s cutting-edge Main Line system incorporates advanced vision sensor technology, integrating engineering, big data, and AI directly onto trains. This system gathers real-time data, including weather information, from remote locations exclusively accessible via railway routes.

Shahar Hania, Rail Vision’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “India, with its expansive and busy railway network, presents a significant market for our advanced technology. The approval of our patent, acknowledged in the US and Japan and pending in Europe and China, underscores our dedication to enhancing railway safety and operational efficiency globally.”

According to the India Brand Equity Foundation, India boasts the world’s fourth-largest railway network, featuring over 22,593 operating trains (9,141 freight and 13,452 passengers). The daily passenger count exceeds 24 million, with freight volume reaching 203.88 million tons. In 2022, passenger traffic surged to 3.54 billion from 1.28 billion in 2021, contributing to an estimated $28.93 billion in total revenue from traffic for 2022-23, marking a 19% increase over revised estimates for 2021-22. Freight revenue is anticipated to reach $19.92 billion, a 14% increase over the revised estimates for 2021-22, while passenger revenue is estimated to be $7.06 billion, reflecting a remarkable 32% increase over the previous year’s low base in 2021-22.
