ISEE, a pioneer in autonomous vehicle technology for transportation and logistics, revealed the world’s inaugural commercial deployment of autonomous yard trucks at a Fortune 100 customer’s Texas site. This milestone marks a shift from testing to the commercialization phase, heralding a new era of enhanced safety, efficiency, and capacity for the supply chain.
The autonomous truck yard represents a major milestone in transportation logistics advancement. By leveraging AI, machine learning, and computer vision, ISEE has successfully deployed a fully autonomous system that optimizes the movement of trailers and containers within the yard, reducing costs, enhancing safety, and offering staffing predictability in the face of ongoing labor shortages.
Situated at a sprawling 1.7 million square foot distribution center boasting 750 trailer staging bays, this deployment sets a precedent for autonomous yard trucks. Operating seamlessly across all shifts and weather conditions, day or night, ISEE’s fleet is making waves in the industry.
ISEE CEO and Co-founder, Yibiao Zhao, stated, “This campus is the first facility to commercially deploy a fleet of fully-autonomous yard trucks. It validates that ISEE is leading the industry in autonomous yard truck technology.”
Debbie Yu, Co-founder of ISEE, emphasized, “Recognizing revenue from a Fortune 100 customer for their full-facility deployment is only the beginning. We have a strong pipeline that we are excited to share when the moment is right.”
Key benefits and features of the autonomous truck yard include:
- Enhanced Safety: Addressing the alarming rate of injuries in transportation and warehousing, the autonomous truck yard minimizes the potential for human error. Cutting-edge sensor technologies and advanced algorithms ensure precise and cautious movements, reducing accidents and collisions.
- New Capacity: With a projected shortage of 160 thousand truck drivers in the US by the end of the decade, autonomous yard trucks provide additional driving capacity. This alleviates the strain on the supply chain by eliminating concerns about daily driver shift coverage.
- Seamless Integration: The autonomous truck yard seamlessly integrates with existing Yard Management Systems, Warehouse Management Systems, and facility operations, requiring no additional infrastructure. Facility operators can continue using their systems to request material moves, with ISEE’s system dispatching autonomous yard trucks to fulfill those requests.
- Workforce Development: As automation takes center stage, ISEE remains committed to workforce development. The deployment of the autonomous truck yard creates new opportunities for training and upskilling transportation workers, ensuring their adaptability to the evolving transportation landscape.
