J.B. Hunt, BNSF & GMXT Collaborate to Launch Quantum de México for Premium Freight Services
J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. , BNSF Railway, and GMXT (Grupo México Transportes) have announced the launch of Quantum de México, a premium intermodal logistics service designed to meet the growing demand for fast, reliable, and environmentally sustainable freight solutions between Mexico and the United States.
The announcement was made on May 30, 2025, during the Congreso Intermodal de la Asociación Mexicana del Transporte Intermodal (AMTI) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This strategic partnership introduces a powerful new logistics solution that brings the proven success of Quantum—a high-performance intermodal service model first introduced in the U.S. in 2023—into the Mexican market.
A Seamless Intermodal Offering for Service-Sensitive Freight
Quantum de México, a J.B. Hunt, BNSF and GMXT service™, has been purpose-built for companies with time-sensitive supply chains. Drawing upon the trio’s combined strengths, the service promises a premium standard of intermodal delivery, blending the efficiency of rail transport with the speed and reliability typically associated with highway freight.
This premium offering delivers a performance-driven solution for customers whose business models depend on consistent, on-time delivery. The service boasts a 95%+ on-time delivery rate, and in many cases, shaves off up to a full day compared to traditional intermodal routes. This level of precision and reliability is made possible by integrating advanced logistics technology and cross-border coordination between three of the region’s most powerful transport providers.
“Mode conversion is one of the leading opportunities businesses can leverage in today’s economic environment to drive efficiency and cost savings,” said Spencer Frazier, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at J.B. Hunt. “The collaboration we’re announcing today brings the full suite of our industry-leading intermodal service—and its unmatched service excellence, scale, and capacity—to Mexico, building on the innovative success of a 35-year relationship.”
Enhanced Visibility and 24/7 Oversight
Quantum de México is distinguished not only by its speed but also by its use of cutting-edge tracking and monitoring systems, ensuring real-time visibility throughout the shipment lifecycle. Customers gain full transparency into their freight status at every stage, from departure to delivery, significantly reducing the risk of disruptions or unforeseen delays.
In addition to its technological backbone, the service benefits from dedicated support teams from all three companies, available around the clock. These teams provide 24×7 operational oversight, coordinating efforts to maintain reliability and resolve issues proactively. Key service features also include priority drayage, as well as optimized railcar loading and unloading—further enhancing throughput and customer satisfaction.
Strategic Coverage Across North America
Quantum de México will connect critical economic corridors and trade hubs across both countries. In the U.S., key origin and destination markets include:
- Chicago
- Dallas-Fort Worth
- The U.S. West Coast
- Eastern U.S. cities
In Mexico, the service will target high-volume industrial centers such as:
- Mexico City
- Guadalajara
- Monterrey
These corridors represent the backbone of manufacturing and export activity in North America, making Quantum de México well-positioned to serve a broad range of sectors including automotive, consumer goods, electronics, agriculture, and industrial equipment.
To support this expanded footprint, J.B. Hunt has also established a new regional office in Querétaro, a key logistics hub in central Mexico. This investment underscores the company’s commitment to long-term service expansion and customer proximity within the region.
Building on a Legacy of Collaboration
The launch of Quantum de México deepens the longstanding collaboration between the three transportation leaders. In 2024, J.B. Hunt, BNSF, and GMXT had already made headlines by introducing intermodal service through the Eagle Pass Gateway, significantly improving cross-border rail efficiency.
Each of the three companies brings unique strengths to the table:
- J.B. Hunt operates North America’s largest intermodal fleet, providing unmatched access to coast-to-coast ground transportation.
- BNSF Railway manages the continent’s most extensive intermodal rail network, known for its scale, reliability, and capacity.
- GMXT is the leading rail operator in Mexico, offering deep connectivity across the country’s industrial and export-oriented regions.

“We have demonstrated that rail and its intermodal services are key allies to industries not only in Mexico but across North America,” said Luis Hernández, Vice President of Intermodal at GMXT. “The progress in service quality that we offer allows us to continue innovating while maintaining efficiency and reliability, with new services like Quantum de México.”
Jon Gabriel, Group Vice President – Consumer Products at BNSF, echoed this sentiment: “Quantum de México represents a significant milestone in our commitment to innovation and excellence in logistics. Expanding our reach from coast to coast allows us to harness our collective strengths and broaden our ability to deliver an unparalleled experience to our customers.”
Unlocking Intermodal Potential in Mexico
The launch comes at a time when Mexico’s role in global supply chains is rapidly expanding. Amid global realignments, many companies have turned to Mexico as a nearshoring destination for manufacturing and logistics. Today, Mexico ranks among the Top 10 exporting countries globally, with more than two-thirds of its exports bound for the United States.
Key sectors—such as automotive, electronics, consumer goods, and agriculture—rely heavily on service-sensitive freight movement. However, an overwhelming majority—nearly 70% of cross-border freight—is still moved via over-the-road (OTR) trucking, which can be slower, costlier, and less environmentally sustainable.
Quantum de México aims to accelerate the conversion of OTR freight to intermodal rail, unlocking a more efficient, scalable, and eco-conscious alternative. Notably, intermodal rail transport reduces carbon emissions by an average of 65% per shipment compared to traditional trucking, making it an attractive option for companies seeking to improve their sustainability performance.
Driving Sustainability and Cost Efficiency
Beyond reliability and speed, the environmental benefits of Quantum de México are critical. With increasing regulatory and consumer pressure to reduce supply chain emissions, intermodal rail provides a proven method to cut carbon output without compromising delivery performance.
By enabling greater mode conversion, Quantum de México offers businesses a practical pathway to balance cost-efficiency, service quality, and environmental stewardship.
