JetBlue Launches ‘Vamo’ Arriba’ Contest to Design New Puerto Rico-Inspired Livery

JetBlue (Nasdaq: JBLU), Puerto Rico’s largest airline, is elevating its commitment to the island’s rich culture and heritage with an exciting new initiative. The airline has launched a contest to design a striking new aircraft livery inspired by Puerto Rico, collaborating with three exceptionally talented Puerto Rican artists. The winning design will be featured on a JetBlue Airbus A320, soaring through the skies later this summer and proudly showcasing the island’s vibrant spirit. This marks JetBlue’s second livery dedicated to Puerto Rico, following the debut of the Bluericua aircraft in 2018.

“Showcasing our island on another JetBlue aircraft will enhance our visibility in other markets, reinforcing our identity as a top destination in the Caribbean. This is a unique opportunity to promote creativity while sharing our story with travelers everywhere.”

Public Voting to Select the Winning Design

Each of the three renowned artists has crafted a distinctive design that captures the essence of Puerto Rico. Now, JetBlue is inviting the public to participate in selecting the final livery. Voting is open through March 11, giving customers and fans an opportunity to contribute to this special initiative. The winning design will be unveiled in March, before making its debut in the skies later this summer.

“Puerto Rico has been a part of JetBlue’s story for more than 20 years, and we are proud to showcase the island’s beauty and spirit, as well as some of its outstanding artists through this new livery search,” said Jayne O’Brien, Head of Marketing and Customer Support at JetBlue. “We take pride in connecting our customers to and from Puerto Rico, but most importantly, in celebrating the people who make the island so special. This livery represents more than just a beautiful design—it’s a tribute to the island’s resilience, creativity, and rich culture. We wish we could pick all three, but we’re excited to see which design resonates most with the public and can’t wait to bring it to life.”

“We appreciate JetBlue’s continued commitment to Puerto Rico, now dedicating a second aircraft to showcase our island’s distinctive heritage,” said Jenniffer González, Governor of Puerto Rico. “This initiative not only strengthens our long-time partnership with the airline but also provides an incredible platform for our talented artists. We encourage everyone to participate and vote to help select a design that will proudly represent our culture in the skies.”

“We are excited to support this effort, which celebrates Puerto Rico’s cultural richness and artistic talent,” said Willianette Robles, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. “Showcasing our island on another JetBlue aircraft will enhance our visibility in other markets, reinforcing our identity as a top destination in the Caribbean. This is a unique opportunity to promote creativity while sharing our story with travelers everywhere.”

Meet the Artists

JetBlue is honored to collaborate with three distinguished Puerto Rican artists for this initiative. Each artist brings a unique perspective and artistic style that reflects the spirit and heritage of Puerto Rico. Each has been compensated for their time.

  • Elizabeth Barreto: Known for her vibrant pop culture-inspired artwork, Elizabeth Barreto brings her signature portrait and illustration style to this project. Her design celebrates Puerto Rico’s stunning beauty by capturing the essence of the island from day to night—highlighting its sun-kissed beaches, the rhythmic nightlife, and the iconic coquí frog’s melodic calls.
  • Juan Gutiérrez: Also known as ‘The Stencil Network,’ Juan is a visual artist celebrated for his mastery of stencil techniques. His artwork has been exhibited in Puerto Rico, New York, and Vienna. His livery design incorporates iconic symbols of Puerto Rican identity, including the proud “Jíbaro” figure on the tail and an explosion of the island’s lush fruits and plants.
  • Natalia Nicole (2BLEENE): An artist currently based in Europe, Natalia’s work blends contemporary abstraction with a passion for nature. Her design draws inspiration from JetBlue’s bold color palette and the Puerto Rican flag, showcasing an energetic floral tribute to the island’s vibrant flora, including the Azucena, carambola, Cruz de Malta, and the iconic hibiscus flower.
JetBlue’s Commitment to Puerto Rico

JetBlue has been an integral part of Puerto Rico’s community for over 20 years, continuously expanding its presence and deepening its investment in the island. In December 2024, JetBlue opened its first crew base outside the continental U.S. in San Juan, initially welcoming inflight crewmembers. This expansion has generated new job opportunities and strengthened the airline’s connection to Puerto Rico’s economy. Additionally, the airline is preparing to introduce San Juan-based pilots to the base in the spring.

JetBlue has also recently enhanced its route network, increasing the frequency of flights between Puerto Rico, major U.S. mainland cities, and the broader Caribbean region. Operating from San Juan, Aguadilla, and Ponce, JetBlue continues to provide reliable and convenient service, making it easier for Puerto Ricans to travel for business, leisure, and personal connections. As JetBlue deepens its commitment to Puerto Rico’s growth, the airline remains actively engaged in initiatives that boost tourism, generate employment, and support cultural preservation.
