Joby and U.S. Air Force Conclude Electric Aircraft Maintenance Training

Joby Aviation, Inc. (NYSE:JOBY), a company pioneering electric air taxis for commercial passenger service, has successfully completed a maintenance training program with the U.S. Air Force. The program, conducted under Joby’s contract with AFWERX Agility Prime, trained Air Force personnel, including a flight test pilot and aircraft maintainers, on the inspection and upkeep of Joby’s electric aircraft.

The four-week training, held at Joby’s flight test and manufacturing facilities in Marina, California, utilized the Aircraft Maintenance Manual developed as part of the company’s ongoing efforts toward Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification. The program combined classroom instruction with hands-on experience, including inspections and pre-flight checks on Joby’s production prototype aircraft.

“We’re proud to have completed another collaboration with the U.S. Air Force, sharing insights into electric aircraft maintenance while benefiting from the expertise of experienced service members,” said Bonny Simi, President of Operations at Joby. “Their feedback will help us refine our in-house maintenance training program further.”

Earlier in April 2023, Joby announced a milestone achievement where four U.S. Air Force pilots became the first service members to operate an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as sole remote pilots-in-command. These flights covered the full flight envelope, including the critical transition from vertical to wingborne flight.

Joby’s electric air taxi is designed to carry a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph. Offering quiet, high-speed mobility with zero operational emissions, the aircraft represents a significant step forward in sustainable urban air mobility.
