KDK Transport Company Honored as Modivcare’s 2024 Virginia Transportation Provider of the Year
Modivcare Inc. (Nasdaq: MODV), a leading healthcare services company committed to transforming patient outcomes through its integrated supportive care platform, has announced that KDK Transport Company has been named its 2024 Virginia Transportation Provider of the Year. This prestigious recognition celebrates KDK’s outstanding contributions to non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) and its unwavering dedication to connecting individuals in need with vital healthcare services across Southern Virginia.
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Modivcare partners with healthcare payers and government agencies to ensure millions of individuals—especially those in underserved and vulnerable populations—have access to the care they need. In Virginia, Modivcare’s expansive NEMT network spans the entire state, helping patients overcome transportation barriers that too often stand in the way of timely and consistent care. Each year, Modivcare honors one exceptional transportation provider for their performance, service quality, and impact on the community. In 2024, that honor goes to KDK Transport Company.
A Grassroots Beginning
KDK Transport’s story is one of vision, resilience, and community-driven impact. Founded in 2019 by husband-and-wife team Eddie and Kimberly Kiser in Coeburn, Virginia, KDK began humbly with just one van and a single employee. Motivated by a deep-rooted desire to improve healthcare access in their rural community, the Kisers saw an opportunity to bridge a critical gap in the healthcare system: helping individuals without reliable transportation get to their medical appointments safely and on time.
From these modest beginnings, KDK Transport has grown into a regional powerhouse in the NEMT sector. Over the past six years, the company has scaled significantly, now operating a fleet of more than 75 vehicles and employing approximately 118 people across its Coeburn and Danville locations. This growth is a testament not only to the demand for reliable transportation services but also to KDK’s commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and compassionate care.
Raising the Bar in Patient Transportation
At the heart of KDK Transport’s success lies a forward-thinking approach to service delivery. The company has implemented several initiatives that set it apart from other providers in the region. These include adopting cutting-edge GPS fleet tracking technology, which allows for real-time monitoring and optimization of routes to improve punctuality and reduce wait times. KDK has also developed internal policies that go above and beyond state and federal regulations, ensuring the safety, comfort, and dignity of every passenger.
These efforts have yielded remarkable results. The company maintains an impressive on-time performance rate of over 97%, a figure that speaks volumes in the NEMT industry where logistical challenges are the norm. Perhaps even more impressive is KDK’s 0% member complaint rate—an achievement that underscores its strong customer service culture and emphasis on member satisfaction.
“KDK Transport exemplifies everything we value in a partner,” said Mary Eaglesfield, Modivcare’s Senior Director of Transportation for Virginia. “Eddie and Kimberly have built a company rooted in service, innovation, and heart. Their impact on the local community is extraordinary. From providing over 1,200 rides per week to employing more than a hundred Virginians, their contribution goes far beyond transportation—it’s about creating access, dignity, and opportunity.”
A New Chapter: Emergency Services
In addition to its success in the NEMT space, KDK Transport has recently expanded into emergency services with the launch of a new venture: Pro Med Ambulance Company. Despite being a relatively new initiative, Pro Med has already become the primary 911 emergency response provider in the Coeburn area, demonstrating the Kisers’ continued commitment to addressing healthcare access gaps in their community.
This expansion reflects KDK’s broader mission of improving lives across the spectrum of healthcare needs. By offering both non-emergency and emergency transport, the company is creating a more comprehensive, responsive infrastructure for patient mobility—particularly in rural areas where access to emergency services can be limited.
“We started KDK with a mission to serve,” said Eddie and Kimberly Kiser. “Every decision we’ve made—from investing in our fleet to hiring local team members—has been focused on helping our community. We are incredibly proud of our staff, who work tirelessly to make a difference every day. This recognition from Modivcare means the world to us, and we’re grateful for the partnership and the trust they’ve placed in us.”
Modivcare’s Impact Across Virginia
KDK Transport is one of more than 530 NEMT providers that comprise Modivcare’s Virginia network. Together, these providers operate nearly 2,719 credentialed vehicles and employ over 3,700 trained and compliant drivers who deliver millions of rides each year. Modivcare’s operational team in Virginia includes 275 local teammates who bring a deep understanding of the region’s unique geographic and demographic challenges.
A key pillar of Modivcare’s provider network is its focus on diversity and inclusion. The majority of its NEMT partners in Virginia are minority- or women-owned businesses—a reflection of the company’s dedication to empowering local entrepreneurs and investing in community-based organizations.
“Access to care doesn’t just mean getting a ride,” added Eaglesfield. “It means building a system that works for everyone, in every zip code. Our providers are the lifeline for thousands of members every day. Companies like KDK Transport elevate that mission with professionalism, compassion, and a relentless drive to do more.
