KLN Launches New Netherlands Logistics Hub to Support EMEA E-commerce Growth

KLN Expands EMEA Footprint with Launch of Advanced Logistics Facility in the Netherlands Amid Surging E-commerce Demand

Kerry Logistics Network Limited (KLN; Stock Code 0636.HK), a global logistics service provider, has announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art bonded logistics facility in the Netherlands. This 61,000 square foot facility, known as the Hoofddorp facility, marks a significant upgrade to KLN’s previous operations at the same site, reflecting the company’s strategic move to scale up its capabilities in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region in response to the growing demands of e-commerce.

The launch of the Hoofddorp facility underscores KLN’s continued commitment to enhancing its logistics infrastructure across key global markets. As the logistics landscape rapidly evolves, driven by the explosive growth of e-commerce and shifting consumer behavior, this expansion positions KLN to better support both existing and new clients with robust, flexible, and efficient supply chain solutions.

A Facility Designed for the Future of Logistics

The newly inaugurated Hoofddorp facility is designed to be a critical logistics hub within KLN’s broader European network. With 61,000 square feet of bonded warehouse space and modern technological infrastructure, it is well-equipped to meet the logistical complexities of today’s digitally driven commerce. Approximately 40 percent of the facility’s operational capacity has been dedicated exclusively to handling e-commerce shipments — a testament to KLN’s focused investment in this fast-growing segment.

To support a wide range of logistics services, the facility features six fully operational loading docks and a purpose-built warehouse outfitted to manage large volumes of goods with speed and accuracy. Customers can benefit from a full suite of end-to-end logistics offerings, including customs clearance, cross-docking, bonded storage, pick and pack operations, e-fulfillment, and both domestic and international distribution.

These value-added services ensure that clients — ranging from multinational retailers and fast-growing online brands to regional distributors — have access to an agile and integrated logistics solution capable of meeting increasingly high customer expectations for fast, reliable, and transparent deliveries.

Strategic Location for Regional Connectivity

The facility’s location in Hoofddorp places it at a highly strategic crossroads of European logistics. Situated just under 30 kilometers from Amsterdam and fewer than 60 kilometers from Rotterdam, it offers seamless connectivity to two of the most significant transportation gateways in Europe: Schiphol Airport and the Port of Rotterdam.

Schiphol Airport ranks among the busiest in Europe in terms of cargo and passenger volumes, while the Port of Rotterdam is Europe’s largest and one of the world’s most important deep-water ports. This dual accessibility enables KLN to efficiently manage both air and sea freight, minimizing transit times and ensuring faster delivery cycles for time-sensitive e-commerce goods.

The site’s proximity to major road networks and multimodal transport options further enhances its position as a central node within the region’s supply chain. With easy access to the Netherlands’ advanced infrastructure and excellent interconnectivity to neighboring countries like Germany, Belgium, and France, the Hoofddorp facility is optimally located to serve as a logistics gateway for the entire EMEA region.

Leadership Perspective: Investing in Scalable Growth

Commenting on the expansion, Martin Stoekenbroek, Managing Director – Europe, Middle East and Africa of KLN, emphasized the importance of the new facility in enabling the company to meet market demands more effectively:

This new facility will enhance our operational capacity in the Netherlands and the EMEA region, particularly in response to the recent growth in e-commerce, with up to 40 percent of our capacity dedicated to this emerging market. Our team is eager to transition to this new facility, which is easily accessible and equipped with state-of-the-art technology to improve the efficiency and quality of operations.

Stoekenbroek also noted that the new facility supports KLN’s broader growth strategy, which includes ongoing investments in infrastructure, technology, and talent across key global markets.

We recognize that the logistics sector is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by digitalization, sustainability, and heightened consumer expectations. This expansion is a vital part of our response to those trends and ensures that we are well-prepared to help our customers navigate the challenges and opportunities of this new era in global trade.

Part of a Larger European Network

The Hoofddorp facility is the newest addition to KLN’s growing presence in the Netherlands, complementing its existing logistics facilities in Rotterdam and Middelharnis. Together, these hubs form a highly integrated network that enables KLN to offer comprehensive supply chain services across the Netherlands and beyond.

KLN’s expansion in the country is part of a broader effort to strengthen its European operations. As more businesses look to the region for reliable, centralized logistics solutions that can handle everything from last-mile delivery to complex fulfillment scenarios, the Netherlands serves as a natural base due to its advanced infrastructure, pro-business regulatory environment, and central location within Europe.

Driving Innovation and Sustainability in Logistics

In addition to operational capabilities, the Hoofddorp facility has been designed with sustainability and innovation in mind. KLN has implemented advanced warehouse management systems (WMS) and automation tools that help optimize inventory control, reduce human error, and accelerate order processing.

Environmental sustainability is also a priority, with energy-efficient lighting, waste reduction initiatives, and the potential for future integration of solar energy and electric vehicle charging stations. These efforts are aligned with KLN’s corporate sustainability goals and its ambition to reduce its carbon footprint across its global operations.

Responding to a Booming E-commerce Market

The opening of the Hoofddorp facility comes at a pivotal time for the logistics industry. E-commerce continues to grow at an unprecedented rate in the EMEA region, driven by increased digital adoption, changing consumer preferences, and the continued expansion of cross-border online shopping.

As e-commerce growth reshapes global supply chains, logistics providers like KLN are under increasing pressure to deliver scalable, tech-driven, and customer-focused solutions. The Hoofddorp facility positions KLN to do exactly that — offering not only capacity but also the speed, reliability, and adaptability required to compete in today’s fast-paced digital economy.
