Maersk Expands Integrated Logistics Network with New Distribution Centre in Suape, Brazil
A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has expanded its integrated logistics network in Latin America by opening a new distribution and warehousing facility in Suape, Pernambuco, reinforcing its ability to provide end-to-end supply chain solutions across Brazil.
Located in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, around 20 kilometres from the Port of Suape and Recife International Airport, the new distribution centre strengthens Maersk’s integrated logistics offering by connecting ocean shipping, cabotage, inland transportation, warehousing and distribution services through a single network.
The expansion comes as Northeastern Brazil experiences strong growth in trade and logistics. According to Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports, based on data from the Brazilian National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ), the region handled 329.7 million tonnes of cargo through maritime and inland waterways in 2025. Container volumes reached 21.2 million tonnes, marking a 9% year-on-year increase, the strongest growth recorded over the past five years.
As industrial activity, consumer demand and international trade continue to expand, businesses are seeking logistics solutions that improve inventory management, enhance supply chain visibility and accelerate market access. The new facility enables Maersk to better serve customers across industries including consumer goods, retail, automotive, technology, electronics, and food and beverage.
Positioned near the Suape Port Complex, the distribution centre provides seamless connectivity between domestic distribution networks and international trade routes. It is designed to handle a wide variety of cargo, ranging from manufacturing components and oversized project cargo to large household appliances, allowing customers to consolidate operations and respond more efficiently to changing market demands.
The facility also incorporates sustainability-focused initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving operational efficiency. Features include LED lighting, waste segregation and recycling programmes, and 100% electric material handling equipment powered by lithium-ion batteries, enabling faster charging, increased productivity and lower local emissions.
Integrated into Maersk’s wider logistics network across Brazil and Latin America, the site allows customers to combine warehousing, transportation, customs services, ocean freight, air freight and supply chain management under one provider. Warehouse operations are managed through Maersk’s global Warehouse Management System (WMS), delivering real-time inventory visibility, enhanced process control and data-driven operational insights.
The investment further strengthens Maersk’s contract logistics presence in Latin America, supporting growing demand for integrated and resilient supply chain solutions across the region.
