NASA Seeks Early Career and Senior Scientists for Prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowships Across U.S. Locations

NASA is inviting both early-career and senior scientists to apply for its prestigious postdoctoral fellowships, offering opportunities to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in science, technology, aeronautics, and space exploration. The application deadline for the current fellowship cycle is November 1, 2024. For more information or to apply, visit the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) website. The NPP is managed for NASA by ORAU.

“The NPP provides a range of scientific and technological fellowships at NASA, along with unparalleled educational experiences that prepare the next generation of leaders for both NASA and the academic community,” said J. Scott Miller, Ph.D., Program Director at ORAU. “ORAU is committed to supporting NASA’s mission to foster an inclusive, collaborative, and innovative work environment that enhances work-life balance and promotes career development for postdoctoral fellows.”

These fellowships offer talented U.S. and international scientists the chance to engage in cutting-edge research projects at NASA Centers, NASA Headquarters, or affiliated research institutes. The fellowships, which range from one to three years, are highly competitive and aim to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

Eligibility:
Applicants who are in the process of completing their Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree are eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree before starting the fellowship. Scientists who have obtained their doctoral degrees more than five years prior can apply as senior fellows. Detailed eligibility requirements can be found on the program’s website.

Benefits:
The base stipend for NASA postdoctoral fellows starts at $70,000 per year, with additional supplements available for high-cost living areas and specific academic specialties. Senior postdoctoral fellows receive stipends based on their appointment location, experience, and professional achievements. Benefits include health insurance supplements, professional development resources, a research allowance of up to $10,000 per year, and relocation reimbursement.
