OOCL Unveils Its First 16,828 TEU Vessel OOCL Bauhinia Naming Ceremony

Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) proudly announced the naming of its first brand-new 16,828 TEU container vessel, the OOCL Bauhinia, at a ceremony held at the Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (DACKS) shipyard. This milestone marks the launch of the first in a series of ten 16,000 TEU NeoPanamax-class vessels ordered by OOCL.

The OOCL Bauhinia represents a significant step for the company as its first NeoPanamax vessel in over a decade. Uniquely, this series of ships is named after flowers, with the bauhinia, Hong Kong’s city flower, chosen to honor OOCL’s 55-year connection to the city. Hong Kong, a global maritime hub, holds special significance for the company and its heritage.

Advanced Features and Specifications

With dimensions of 366.99 meters in length, 51.0 meters in width, and 30.2 meters in depth, the OOCL Bauhinia boasts a draft of 14.5 meters and a carrying capacity of 16,828 TEU. Designed to navigate the Panama Canal’s new locks, the vessel offers exceptional deployment flexibility.

This next-generation NeoPanamax ship incorporates cutting-edge innovations in environmental design, energy efficiency, and digital intelligence. It meets stringent regulatory requirements and enhances operational performance with improved safety, comfort, and sustainability standards.

The naming ceremony was graced by Ms. Xiaoli Ma, Managing Director of COSCO-HIT Terminals (Hong Kong) Limited, as the vessel sponsor, and Mr. Lianjun Li, Senior Partner at Reed Smith Richards Butler LLP, along with numerous guests, partners, and customers.
