PHINIA Debuts Technology to Cut Emissions and Improve Fuel Efficiency for Kohler Diesel Engines

PHINIA Inc. (NYSE), a leading provider of premium fuel systems, electrical systems, and aftermarket solutions, has unveiled the industry’s first electronically-controlled low-pressure common rail injection system for compact diesel engines in off-highway applications. This new technology, developed in partnership with Kohler Engines, represents a significant advancement in improving fuel economy and meeting stringent emissions standards.

“While electric engines offer one path to reducing emissions, they are not suitable for every application. The CR350 fills the gap between maintaining operational efficiency and advancing sustainability, designed to achieve lower emissions in line with global standards while remaining cost-effective,” said Todd Anderson, Chief Technology Officer at PHINIA Inc.

The CR350 system operates at up to 350 bar fuel pressure and is tailored specifically for small off-highway diesel engines. Developed in just 14 months, this rapid development timeline highlights PHINIA’s commitment to engineering excellence and sustainable innovation.

Designed to meet emissions regulations including EU Stage V, EPA Tier 4, and China Stage 4, the CR350 system integrates seamlessly with the Kohler KSD diesel engine. This collaboration marks a pivotal shift in off-highway vehicle technology. The CR350’s advanced electronic control unit optimizes fuel delivery, resulting in up to 7% improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions*.

The compact design and integrated electronic injection system make the CR350 suitable for a variety of off-highway applications, including forklifts, generators, tractors, and belt loaders.

“As global efforts to develop greener alternatives grow, we are proud to contribute to the solution,” said Anderson. “While electric engines are one option for reducing emissions, they don’t fit all scenarios. The CR350 provides a bridge between maintaining operational continuity and achieving sustainability, meeting global emissions standards while being cost-effective.”
