Porter Airlines Launches Inaugural Kelowna–Toronto Pearson Route

Porter Airlines has officially touched down in Kelowna, British Columbia, with the successful launch of its new nonstop route connecting Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Kelowna International Airport (YLW). The inaugural flight marks a major milestone in Porter’s ongoing expansion across Western Canada and provides travellers with a seamless east-west link between two of the country’s most vibrant regions.

The new route initially offers five weekly roundtrip flights and will ramp up to daily service beginning June 23, 2025. This enhanced schedule supports both business and leisure travellers, offering greater flexibility and convenience for those flying between Ontario and the heart of British Columbia’s picturesque Okanagan Valley.

Strengthening Porter’s Westward Growth

With this addition, Kelowna joins Vancouver and Victoria as Porter Airlines’ third destination in British Columbia, reinforcing the carrier’s commitment to expanding its footprint beyond its traditional Eastern Canada stronghold. This strategic growth aligns with Porter’s broader vision to create a cohesive national network while maintaining its signature passenger experience, built around comfort, service, and efficiency.

“We are thrilled to be extending our reach further into Western Canada,” said Andrew Pierce, Vice President of Network Planning and Reporting at Porter Airlines. “Kelowna is a natural fit for our expanding route map. Its year-round appeal, from outdoor adventures to cultural experiences and renowned wineries, makes it an ideal destination for Canadians across the country. By linking Kelowna directly with Toronto Pearson, and providing connections to cities like Ottawa, Montréal, Halifax, and St. John’s, we’re making it even easier for Canadians to explore our beautiful country.”

Flight Schedule and Connections

The new Kelowna–Toronto Pearson service operates according to the following schedule:

In addition to nonstop service, Porter provides connecting flight options through Toronto Pearson to a wide range of Eastern Canadian destinations, including Ottawa, Montréal, Halifax, and St. John’s. This enables travellers from Kelowna to access Canada’s key economic and cultural hubs with one-stop connectivity.

A Superior Passenger Experience

The new route is operated using Porter’s state-of-the-art Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which seats 132 passengers in a comfortable two-by-two configuration. As the quietest and most fuel-efficient aircraft in its class, the E195-E2 represents a key part of Porter’s fleet modernization and sustainability goals. The absence of middle seats enhances passenger comfort and aligns with Porter’s premium economy travel philosophy.

Onboard, passengers enjoy a distinct service model that sets Porter apart from other North American carriers. All guests receive complimentary beer and wine served in real glassware, as well as a curated selection of premium Canadian snacks. Free high-speed WiFi and fast streaming are also standard across the aircraft, ensuring travellers stay connected throughout their journey.

Porter offers two main fare categories: PorterReserve and PorterClassic. PorterReserve, the airline’s all-inclusive option, provides additional perks such as fresh, healthy meals, dedicated airport check-in, extra legroom, no change fees, and two checked bags. Meanwhile, PorterClassic allows passengers to customize their experience by selecting only the add-ons they require, offering flexibility and value.

Kelowna Airport and Community Reception

The arrival of Porter Airlines in Kelowna was met with enthusiastic support from both airport officials and civic leaders. As one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada, Kelowna has become an increasingly attractive destination for tourism, investment, and relocation. Direct air links with major cities like Toronto are essential for supporting this growth.

“We are excited to have a new airline at YLW that provides our passengers with more travel options and increased access to destinations across Canada,” said Sam Samaddar, Chief Executive Officer of Kelowna International Airport. “This is the start of what I know will be a great partnership with Porter Airlines—one that will benefit our entire region economically and socially.”

Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas echoed this sentiment, noting that the new route would enhance the city’s connectivity, strengthen regional business opportunities, and further elevate the city’s profile as a top-tier destination.

“Kelowna is excited to welcome Porter Airlines’ inaugural flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport,” said Mayor Dyas. “This new direct connection is one of several new routes supporting the continued expansion of Kelowna International Airport. It strengthens our ties to Eastern Canada, boosts our local economy, supports businesses, and highlights Kelowna’s growing appeal as a premier destination.”

Sustainable Aviation at the Forefront

Porter Airlines has also taken significant steps to prioritize environmental responsibility. Its onboard service has been designed with sustainability in mind, with a long-term goal of eliminating single-use plastics wherever possible. The airline has adopted biodegradable cutlery, eco-conscious food packaging, and a waste-reduction ethos that permeates its operations.

The selection of the Embraer E195-E2 as the aircraft for this route also reflects this sustainability commitment. The E195-E2 delivers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption per seat compared to previous-generation aircraft, along with reduced Porter Airlines noise and emissions. Porter’s investment in this aircraft signals a proactive approach to creating a greener future for Canadian aviation.

Connecting Canadians—Coast to Coast

The launch of the Kelowna–Toronto Pearson route underscores Porter’s ongoing mission to connect Canadians more seamlessly from coast to coast. The addition of this nonstop flight not only benefits residents of Kelowna Porter Airlines and the Okanagan region but also provides greater travel opportunities for Ontarians and visitors from Eastern Canada seeking new destinations and experiences.

With increased frequencies on the horizon and an expanding network that continues to link key cities across the country, Porter is positioning itself as a leading choice for Canadian travellers who prioritize comfort, quality, and sustainability.

As summer travel demand builds, the timing of this new route’s launch is well-suited to meet the needs of vacationers and business travellers alike. With daily service commencing in late June, Porter expects strong uptake from travellers Porter Airlines eager to explore the scenic beauty of the Okanagan or take advantage of seamless connections to the East.

This new chapter in Porter’s growth story highlights the carrier’s ability to offer a refined passenger experience while supporting Canadian communities with greater air connectivity. From wine tours and lakefront escapes to cross-country business opportunities, Porter’s new route is set to become a vital link in Canada’s aviation network.
