Railmark Expands North American Railcar Repair Network with Acquisition of Katahdin Railcar Services
Railmark Holdings, Incorporated has expanded its rail services platform with the acquisition of Katahdin Railcar Services LLC (KRS), an Association of American Railroads (AAR)-certified railcar and tank car repair company based in Derby, Maine. The transaction strengthens Railmark’s capabilities in specialized railcar maintenance and adds certified tank car repair services to its growing national network.
The acquisition represents a strategic step in Railmark’s efforts to expand its presence across the North American rail industry. With the addition of KRS, Railmark now operates across 13 locations in 11 U.S. states. Three of these operating locations are shortline railroads, giving the company a broader presence across rail infrastructure, repair, maintenance and transportation services.

Katahdin Railcar Services brings significant expertise and specialized capabilities to Railmark’s portfolio. Its facility in Derby has historically served customers throughout New England and along the CPKC rail line.
In addition to its fixed repair facility, KRS operates Mobile Repair Service Teams that provide services across the New England region. This mobile capability allows the company to deliver maintenance and repair solutions closer to customers and rail operations, helping to improve flexibility and reduce the need to move railcars long distances for certain types of work.
One of the most notable capabilities associated with the KRS facility is North America’s only robotic tank car cleaning system.
