Robinson Helicopter Company (RHC), a leading manufacturer of civil helicopters, has secured FAA approval to extend the service life of certain components on the Robinson R66 helicopter from 2,000 to 4,000 hours. This extension, based on extensive data and structural testing, is set to lower maintenance costs, enhance reliability, reduce operating costs by 6%, and cut overhaul reserves by 25%.

The FAA-approved extension covers twelve key parts, including five components within the main rotor gearbox. This will result in fewer overhauls and reduced maintenance expenses for R66 owners. Additionally, the calendar life for the R66’s main rotor and tail rotor blades has been extended from 12 years to 15 years.
