Ryder Honored for Environmental Leadership in Sustainable Transportation Solutions

Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R) has been named a 2024 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay® Excellence Award winner and a SmartWay® High Performer, acknowledging its exceptional environmental performance and leadership in freight sustainability within its dedicated transportation business. Among nearly 4,000 EPA SmartWay truck carrier partners, Ryder was one of just 29 to receive the SmartWay Excellence Award—the EPA’s highest honor. This marks the sixth time Ryder has earned this prestigious recognition since 2013.

“We are committed to continuous improvement and relentlessly working to eliminate waste in our customers’ transportation networks and supply chains,” said Steve W. Martin, executive vice president of Ryder’s dedicated transportation solutions. “This award reflects our ongoing investments in Ryder’s fleet, infrastructure, and innovative technologies to enhance efficiency, reduce out-of-route miles, and minimize truck idling.”

Every year, SmartWay partners submit fleet and vehicle performance data, which the EPA evaluates to identify the top performers in environmental sustainability.

“For two decades, the SmartWay Transport Partnership has collaborated with stakeholders across the freight industry to innovate ways to reduce pollution from goods movement,” said Joseph Goffman, assistant administrator of air and radiation at the EPA. “We commend the innovation, determination, and collaborative spirit of our partners who are helping address climate change and creating a healthier environment for all.”

Ryder has been a SmartWay partner since 2006. The company’s awards include the SmartWay Excellence Award in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2021, 2023, and 2024; SmartWay High Performer in 2020, 2023, and 2024; and the SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Award in 2014.
