Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia Broaden Collaboration to Deliver Superior Travel Experience

Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines Expand Strategic Alliance with New Joint Offerings and Enhanced Passenger Benefits

Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines (SIA), two of Southeast Asia’s leading carriers, have announced a significant expansion of their commercial partnership, aimed at delivering greater value, connectivity, and convenience to travelers across the region. Beginning in August 2025, the two airlines will implement several key initiatives, including joint fare product sales, an expanded codeshare network, and reciprocal lounge access for eligible frequent flyer members.

This strengthened collaboration represents a major milestone in the long-standing relationship between the two airlines and is set to transform the travel experience between Singapore and Indonesia, as well as to select international destinations.

A Seamless Booking Experience with Joint Fare Products

From August 2025, Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines customers will benefit from the launch of joint sales of fare products across both networks. This integration will enable passengers to book flights operated by either carrier for travel between Singapore and various Indonesian cities through a single itinerary. The result is a more seamless and user-friendly booking process that provides greater flexibility and an expanded range of fare options for leisure and business travelers alike.

By combining their sales efforts, Garuda Indonesia and SIA aim to create a unified travel experience that reflects the evolving expectations of modern passengers. Travelers will be able to choose from a broader range of flight schedules, fare categories, and service classes while enjoying the convenience of a single booking and ticketing process — especially valuable for those making multi-city or international connections.

Expanded Codeshare Destinations: More Travel Options

As part of the expanded cooperation, the two carriers will significantly grow their codeshare network starting August 2025. This move is expected to dramatically increase connectivity between Singapore, Indonesia, and several high-demand international markets, opening up a host of new travel options for passengers of both airlines.

Under the new agreement, Garuda Indonesia will gain access to four additional destinations operated by Singapore Airlines: Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Delhi in India, as well as Male in the Maldives. These new codeshare routes are expected to strengthen Garuda’s footprint in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region, offering Indonesian travelers easier access to both leisure and business hubs.

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines customers will enjoy access to several new domestic Indonesian destinations via Garuda Indonesia-operated flights. These include popular tourist locations such as Labuan Bajo, Lombok, and Manado, with connections available from either Jakarta or Denpasar. These routes are particularly appealing for international travelers seeking to explore Indonesia’s renowned islands and natural wonders beyond the traditional tourist trail.

This expansion builds upon existing codeshare routes between Singapore and key Indonesian cities such as Denpasar (Bali), Jakarta, and Surabaya. It also maintains codeshare arrangements for SIA-operated flights to long-haul destinations including London Heathrow in the United Kingdom and Mumbai, India.

Enhanced Lounge Access and Frequent Flyer Benefits

Another major enhancement in the partnership is the introduction of reciprocal lounge access for frequent flyer members, starting mid-August 2025. Members of GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer — the frequent flyer programs of Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines, respectively — will be able to access each other’s premium airport lounges when traveling between Singapore and select Indonesian cities.

This includes access to the Garuda Executive Lounge and Business Class SilverKris Lounge in Singapore, as well as corresponding lounges in Denpasar, Jakarta, and Surabaya. Eligible members will include those holding Garuda Executive or KrisFlyer Gold status, among others. This marks a substantial improvement in the overall travel experience for frequent flyers, particularly those traveling in premium cabins or holding elite status.

In addition to lounge access, members will also be able to earn and redeem miles on the newly codeshared routes, under the frequent flyer partnership first launched in February 2025. This dual benefit — more earning opportunities and redemption flexibility — represents a win-win for loyal customers of both carriers and underscores the growing importance of customer-centric rewards programs in today’s competitive airline industry.

Boosted Flight Frequencies to Meet Demand

Recognizing the strong demand for air travel between Singapore and Indonesia, both airlines have also committed to increasing flight frequencies on key routes.

Singapore Airlines took the lead in May 2025 by increasing its daily flights between Singapore and Jakarta from eight to nine. Garuda Indonesia is expected to follow suit in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals, by adding a seventh daily flight between Jakarta and Singapore. The airline has also indicated plans to further boost its frequencies in the months ahead, signaling a shared commitment to meet rising passenger demand and provide greater flexibility in travel planning.

These enhanced schedules will improve connectivity between the two countries and offer passengers more options for travel times, convenient layovers, and efficient connections to onward destinations.

Strengthening Regional and Bilateral Ties

The expanded partnership between Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines also holds broader significance beyond the commercial sphere. By deepening their cooperation, the two national carriers are playing a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral ties between Indonesia and Singapore — two of Southeast Asia’s largest economies with long-standing cultural, economic, and political relationships.

This joint initiative not only supports tourism and business travel but also contributes to broader goals of regional integration and economic growth. Both airlines recognize the strategic value of working together in an increasingly interconnected global environment, especially as the aviation sector continues to recover and adapt in the post-pandemic era.

Executive Perspectives

In a joint statement, the leadership of both airlines expressed optimism about the future of the partnership and the enhanced value it brings to their customers.

Mr. Wamildan Tsani, President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, said:
“Garuda Indonesia is delighted with this strengthening of our partnership with Singapore Airlines, which reflects our shared commitment to delivering an enhanced and seamless travel experience for our customers. With broader connectivity and integrated services, this collaboration also serves as a platform to support stronger bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore.”

Mr. Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Airlines, echoed the sentiment:
“This enhancement of our partnership with Garuda Indonesia offers tangible benefits to our customers through joint sales of fare products, additional codeshare destinations, and improved frequent flyer offerings. By working together, we are leveraging our combined strengths to enhance the customer experience and support the growth of air travel between Singapore and Indonesia, and beyond.”

The August 2025 enhancements mark a new chapter in the evolving relationship between Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines. As the two carriers continue to align their networks, services, and customer benefits, they are well-positioned to deliver superior value and convenience in one of Asia’s most important aviation corridors.

For travelers — whether leisure or business — this collaboration promises a more comprehensive and streamlined journey, backed by the trusted service and quality that both airlines are known for.
