Stak Mobility to Launch Second Mobility Hub in Pittsburgh; Sees Continued Momentum Across the US

Stak Mobility, the provider of scalable and sustainable EV charging and parking solutions that create more space for the community, announces a second project in Pittsburgh’s bustling Strip District, building on momentum from the company’s successful launches across four states. The project is in conjunction with a mixed-use building development and will feature 42 vertical parking spaces for residents, all EV-ready and on a footprint that typically can only fit six vehicles. Stak’s solution also freed up 10,000 square feet of commercial space within the building that would have otherwise been required for parking, unlocking valuable amenity, commercial, and retail space for residents and the surrounding community. The project supports citywide goals to reduce on-road transportation emissions by 50%, increase vehicle electrification, and revitalize the Strip District creating space for local businesses to grow within the community.

Stak, in partnership with New York-based developer The AM Group, expects their solution to be operational shortly after construction of the mixed-use building is complete in early 2025. This will be the sixth deployment of Stak’s innovative technology.

“This project came about due to the popularity of our first site a few blocks away,” said Diallo Powell, CEO and co-founder of Stak Mobility. “That’s a huge testament to both the utility and elevated experience that Stak makes possible. We’re focused on building projects for people—whether that’s creating a more convenient parking experience, helping cities grow more sustainably, or enabling the urban driver to transition to an electric vehicle, reducing the emissions produced on the road. We’re looking forward to continuing our momentum and building more mobility hubs in communities across the country.”

Stak was founded in 2020 and has since expanded across the U.S. with four successfully completed projects in Pittsburgh, PA; Healdsburg, CA; Gainesville, FL; and Charleston, SC; and two in progress in Pittsburgh, PA and Beverly Hills, CA. In 2023, Stak deployed the world’s first “EV Carousel” vertical parking systems with fully integrated Level 2 EV charging in Pittsburgh. This location houses 30 spaces with integrated EV charging capability. Stak’s Healdsburg project utilizes the company’s “carbarn” concept. In a 100’ by 40’ footprint, the Stak platform can park and charge up to 108 vehicles—efficiently using a 4,000-square-foot footprint that would have otherwise needed 30,000+ square feet for a typical surface lot.

Stak’s self-service, vertical vehicle storage, and charging solution can provide up to an 85% reduction in the vehicle footprint—a highly efficient land usage solution for cities. The company is also working on a public model that would open up surplus spaces in the EV Carousels to the surrounding public. Stak’s projects are multi-use and equipped with fully remote support and troubleshooting capabilities, with the ability to support residential, retail, and commercial uses, including light-duty fleet management. Drivers simply use Stak’s mobile app to reserve, park, charge, pay, and retrieve their vehicles.

In addition to real-world deployments and a growing roster of customers throughout the country, partnerships with Morgan StanleyNewlab, and the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator are important validators of Stak’s approach, product, and long-term growth trajectory.

“Parking is the most challenging design component in urban areas, and with Stak’s solution, we were able to successfully and sustainably move our development projects forward,” said Robert Mullin, managing member of Stak partner Penrose Advisors. “We look forward to seeing the impact of Stak’s EV charging carousels on our developments and the Pittsburgh community as a whole.”

“Newlab is a deeptech venture platform designed to help world-changing startups scale faster, and we’re thrilled to celebrate our member company, Stak Mobility, with their second location in Pittsburgh and sixth announced deployment in the U.S.,” said Jack Fritzinger, Program Director, Founder Fellowship at Newlab. “We’re a proud partner helping Stak as they reimagine the future of urban transportation, facilitating widespread urban EV adoption while minimizing parking footprints.
