STARLUX Airlines Expands Long-Haul Fleet with Order for 10 Additional A350-1000s

STARLUX Airlines, Taiwan’s premier luxury carrier, has taken a bold step to further its long-haul ambitions with the signing of a significant purchase agreement for 10 additional Airbus A350-1000 widebody aircraft. The deal was announced during the 2025 Paris Air Show and signed by STARLUX CEO Glenn Chai and Airbus Executive Vice President of Sales, Commercial Aircraft, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry.

This new order signals STARLUX’s continued investment in modern, fuel-efficient aircraft as part of its strategy to expand international services and deliver a premium passenger experience. Deliveries of the newly ordered A350-1000s are scheduled to begin in 2031 and will significantly enhance the airline’s medium- and long-haul capacity. At the same time, STARLUX also took the opportunity to unveil a striking new livery for the A350-1000 that emphasizes innovation, elegance, and the airline’s distinct brand identity.

Strengthening Long-Haul Operations with the A350-1000

CEO Glenn Chai emphasized the importance of this purchase to STARLUX’s long-term growth strategy. “This additional purchase of the A350-1000 is a significant step forward in expanding our route network and strengthening our global presence,” Chai said. “With its outstanding range, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort, the A350-1000 aligns perfectly with STARLUX’s vision for long-haul travel. As we continue to grow our international network, these aircraft will support our goals of sustainability, operational flexibility, and maintaining a best-in-class passenger experience.”

Known for its luxury-focused service and attention to detail, STARLUX has consistently sought to differentiate itself from other regional carriers. The A350-1000, Airbus’ flagship long-haul aircraft, fits naturally into that mission. Designed for high-capacity, ultra-long-range flights, the aircraft offers STARLUX the range and flexibility needed to launch new intercontinental routes while maintaining superior levels of comfort and environmental performance.

Airbus Praises STARLUX’s Strategic Vision

Commenting on the agreement, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry of Airbus lauded STARLUX’s decision and reaffirmed the strong partnership between the two companies. “STARLUX Airlines’ decision to expand its fleet with more A350-1000s reaffirms the aircraft’s status as the benchmark for long-haul operations,” he said. “With its advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials, and next-generation engines, the A350-1000 enables airlines to optimize long-distance routes while significantly reducing their environmental impact. We are proud to continue supporting STARLUX as they expand their global reach with elegance and efficiency.”

The A350-1000 is built for performance and sustainability. Over 70% of the aircraft’s structure is composed of advanced materials, including 53% carbon-fiber reinforced composites, as well as titanium and modern aluminum alloys. These contribute to a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency and CO₂ emissions compared to older aircraft in its class, while also providing a quieter, smoother ride for passengers.

New Livery Showcases STARLUX’s Design Ethos

Alongside the aircraft order, STARLUX revealed a dramatic new livery designed specifically for the A350-1000. The updated look pays tribute to the airline’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. A carbon fiber-inspired pattern across the fuselage visually highlights the aircraft’s modern composite construction. The tail features a sleek obsidian gray finish with earth gold accents, symbolizing a blend of high-tech progress and timeless sophistication.

One of the most eye-catching elements of the design is the prominent “1000” marking near the aircraft’s rear, emphasizing the magnitude of the A350-1000’s role in STARLUX’s long-haul fleet. The overall aesthetic reflects STARLUX’s positioning as a premium airline that values both form and function, innovation and tradition. This attention to detail also underscores the airline’s philosophy of offering passengers a “home in the air”—a warm, welcoming, and uniquely luxurious inflight experience.

A Modern, Efficient Fleet

With this new order, STARLUX’s future A350-1000 fleet will grow to a total of 18 aircraft. The airline currently operates 28 aircraft:

  • 13 Airbus A321neo for regional operations
  • 5 Airbus A330neo for medium-haul routes
  • 10 Airbus A350-900 for long-haul routes

The A350-1000 will complement STARLUX’s existing long-haul fleet and allow the airline to meet growing demand for intercontinental travel from Taiwan, particularly to North America, Europe, and potentially new destinations in Australia and the Middle East. STARLUX has already launched long-haul services to Los Angeles and San Francisco and is expected to expand further into global markets in the coming years.

Airbus A350: The Long-Range Leader

The Airbus A350-1000 is one of the most advanced widebody aircraft in operation. It can fly non-stop for up to 9,700 nautical miles (approximately 18,000 kilometers), enabling airlines like STARLUX to open new long-distance routes without the need for intermediate stops. Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines—among the most fuel-efficient and quietest engines available—the A350-1000 also provides superior economics and environmental performance.

Passenger comfort is another key selling point of the A350 family. With a wider cabin cross-section than other twin-aisle aircraft, the A350 allows for spacious seating, quieter interiors, and higher cabin pressure for improved passenger well-being during long-haul flights. Advanced air filtration, customizable LED lighting, and reduced cabin noise contribute to a more relaxing and enjoyable travel experience—perfectly aligned with STARLUX’s service philosophy.

As global air travel continues to rebound post-pandemic and as Taiwan strengthens its role as a regional aviation hub, STARLUX’s investment in the A350-1000 places it in an excellent position for sustained international growth. The airline’s focus on operational efficiency, environmental responsibility, and unmatched passenger service positions it as a rising star in global aviation.

This latest aircraft order not only reinforces STARLUX’s partnership with Airbus but also underscores its ambition to be a global leader in luxury long-haul travel. With a strong foundation in fleet modernization and customer-centric innovation, STARLUX Airlines is charting a bold course into the future of aviation.
