The initiative is contingent upon obtaining all required approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Transportation.
Ed Wegel, the Chairman and CEO of GlobalX, a seasoned figure in the aviation industry, has appointed Lucy Morillo, Esq., as the President and CEO of UrbanX. Morillo, an accomplished attorney, community leader, and serial entrepreneur, is tasked with leading the launch of UrbanX and advancing the UAM ecosystem in South Florida. Notably, she becomes one of the few Hispanic female CEOs in the aviation and urban air mobility sector.
UAM involves the use of highly automated, electrically propelled small aircraft to facilitate short-distance commuting at lower altitudes in urban and suburban areas. The goal is to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance travel efficiency, and provide a safer, faster, and more environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
Morillo, with her extensive executive experience in business, private equity, and non-profit sectors, is collaborating with local and state officials, as well as infrastructure, energy, and technology providers, to establish a robust framework. Actively engaged in various industry associations, Morillo is focused on fostering collaborations through a public-private partnership to ensure that UrbanX’s services not only benefit passengers but also contribute to the well-being of the surrounding communities.
