The airline proudly announced that the Airbus A321neo—the world’s most efficient single-aisle aircraft—is now the dominant model in its operational fleet, comprising two-thirds of the total aircraft in service. As of now, Wizz Air’s fleet consists of 234 aircraft, of which 152 are Airbus A321neo models, six are A320neo, and one is the long-range Airbus A321XLR. This means that more than 67% of the airline’s fleet is powered by advanced, next-generation technology. The carrier has set an ambitious target of operating an all-neo fleet by 2029—a goal that reinforces its leadership in both innovation and environmental responsibility.

Innovating Beyond the Aircraft: Smarter Supply Chains

Wizz Air’s commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop with fleet upgrades. The airline is also rethinking the interior and supply chain components of its aircraft to minimize waste and environmental impact. Since 2015, Wizz Air has partnered with Gen Phoenix, a leader in sustainable material innovation, to integrate upcycled leather offcuts into its cabin seating.

These innovative seat components are made from discarded leather scraps that would otherwise end up in landfills. The material is transformed into lightweight, durable elements used in aircraft cabins. The benefits are substantial: up to 80% less carbon emissions and 87% less water usage in production compared to traditional materials.

This sustainable material initiative, which began with a single A320 aircraft, has now been scaled across Wizz Air’s entire operating fleet, which serves approximately 50,000 passengers daily. To date, Gen Phoenix has supplied over 100,000 square meters of material to Wizz Air. This equates to the prevention of 16 tons of waste from reaching landfills annually and an estimated 7,300 tons of lifecycle emissions avoided each year.

Such initiatives reflect Wizz Air’s holistic approach to sustainability—an approach that considers not only the environmental impact of flying itself, but also the manufacturing, maintenance, and supply processes that support it.
