Wizz Air Publishes 2025 Sustainability Report, Reinforces Leadership in Green Aviation

Wizz Air, recognised as EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airline¹, has released its Sustainability Report for the financial year ending 31 March 2025. Independently verified, the report showcases the airline’s significant progress and ongoing commitments across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) domains. Notably, Wizz Air was again named the world’s most emissions-efficient airline by leading aviation analytics firm Cirium².

Industry-Leading Emissions Efficiency and Fleet Innovation

Wizz Air reported an emissions intensity of just 52.2 grams of CO₂ per passenger kilometre³ in FY25—one of the lowest figures globally. This achievement is largely attributed to its ultra-modern fleet, averaging just 4.7 years in age. Of the airline’s 231 aircraft, over 66%—including 147 Airbus A321neos and 6 A320neos—are powered by next-generation Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, delivering 20% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, and 50% less noise.

With an ambitious plan to operate an all-neo fleet by 2028, Wizz Air continues to lead in sustainability-focused innovation. A newly unveiled special-livery aircraft marks 20 years of partnership with Airbus, celebrating both past milestones and future goals in aviation technology.

Advancing SAF Usage Toward 2030 Goals

Demonstrating a data-driven approach to carbon reduction, Wizz Air conducted Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) trial flights between October and December 2024 on the Barcelona–Budapest and Brussels Charleroi–Budapest routes, in partnership with SAF suppliers Moeve and World Fuel Services. The airline is targeting a 10% SAF blend across its operations by 2030.

A Clear Roadmap to Net Zero

To mark Earth Day, Wizz Air introduced its long-term decarbonization strategy, aligned with ICAO’s global target for net zero emissions in international aviation by 2050. The roadmap emphasizes industry collaboration and policy support as key drivers for sustainable transformation.

“Our ESG agenda is built on action, not marketing,” said Dorottya Durucsko, Head of Government Affairs and Sustainability at Wizz Air. “This report reflects our focus on measurable outcomes—investing in technology, scaling SAF capabilities, and refining operations to remain one of the world’s most efficient airlines. We’re setting a benchmark for how low-cost aviation can transition responsibly.”

Industry Recognition and Social Commitment

In 2024, Wizz Air was honoured with the ‘Best Airline for Carbon Reduction’ award at the Carbon Awards by World Finance and received the CAPA Environmental Sustainability Award for Excellence for the third consecutive year.

Beyond environmental goals, Wizz Air also made significant strides in social responsibility. Over 2,300 new employees joined in FY25, expanding its diverse team to more than 9,000 staff representing 112 nationalities.
