Kuehne+Nagel, Mondadori Group Open Italy’s Biggest Educational Publishing Logistics Center

  • One centralised hub for Mondadori Group’s publishing logistics operations in the country
  • Reliable access to learning materials across Italy, supporting future growth of publishing
  • Facility combines scale, technology and sustainability to enhance service, flexibility and omnichannel distribution

Kuehne+Nagel and Mondadori Group have inaugurated a new 40,000-square-metre fulfilment centre in San Giorgio Bigarello, Mantova, creating Italy’s largest logistics hub dedicated to educational publishing. The new facility is designed to improve the distribution of textbooks and learning materials to schools, educators, students, and families across the country.

Developed and operated by Kuehne+Nagel, the fulfilment centre consolidates operations that were previously spread across three different locations. In addition to supporting educational publishing, the hub also manages Mondadori Group’s retail publishing operations, including bookstores, e-commerce, and direct-to-consumer distribution. The integrated facility strengthens the company’s ability to meet growing demand through a single, efficient logistics platform.

The centralised hub enhances inventory visibility, improves omnichannel capabilities, and streamlines supply chain operations. These improvements enable Mondadori Group to respond more effectively to evolving customer expectations while ensuring the timely delivery of educational materials during the highly seasonal school publishing cycle.

Eduardo Razuck, Executive Vice President of Contract Logistics at Kuehne+Nagel, said the project reflects the companies’ long-standing partnership and shared focus on innovation. He noted that the combination of logistics expertise, advanced technology, and operational excellence has created a scalable platform that supports Mondadori Group’s future growth while also contributing to regional economic development, job creation, and the education sector.

Antonio Porro, Chief Executive Officer of Mondadori Group, said the new fulfilment centre enables the company to better coordinate its educational and retail publishing operations. He added that the facility strengthens integration between physical and digital sales channels and improves service quality across the supply chain, ensuring reliable and timely delivery of educational materials to schools, teachers, students, and families throughout Italy.

The fulfilment centre became fully operational in June 2026 following a phased transition that ensured uninterrupted service during implementation. Sustainability and innovation were key priorities in the facility’s development. The LEED Gold-certified site features renewable energy systems, energy-efficient lighting, CO₂ emissions monitoring, and sustainable packaging solutions, supporting both environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.

The new logistics hub also benefits from Kuehne+Nagel’s continued investments in technology, automation, and advanced distribution capabilities, further strengthening its ability to manage complex supply chain operations for the publishing industry.
