Lexmark’s New 1M Sq-Ft Tech Distribution Center, Managed by Ryder

Ryder System, Inc., a frontrunner in the supply chain, dedicated transportation, and fleet management solutions, declares the launch of Lexmark’s latest one-million-square-foot distribution hub in North America. This purpose-built facility combines two separate Lexmark operations, optimizing the handling of printers, copiers, toner cartridges, and spare parts for enhanced efficiency in customer order fulfillment.

Located strategically in Jeffersonville, Indiana, just across the river from Louisville, Kentucky, Lexmark’s newly centralized facility capitalizes on its proximity to river, road, rail, and runway intersections. This prime location enables Lexmark to achieve 99% same-day shipping and 99% midnight parcel pick-up, all while providing next-day air service. The facility also enhances efficiency in the customization, configuration, return, refurbishment, and recertification of equipment, leading to significant cost savings.

Norm Brouillette, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain for Ryder, emphasizes the time-critical nature of Lexmark’s business, with equipment handling and transit time being primary concerns. Ryder conducted a comprehensive network analysis, taking into account markets served, shipping volumes and times, transport costs, nearby ports, real estate prices, and the labor market. The analysis identified an ideal location that not only reduced Lexmark’s total outbound shipping costs but also improved two-day transit, offering the added advantage of same-day shipping and next-day air service.

A crucial component of this tailored solution is the implementation of RyderShareTM, a digital platform that provides real-time visibility across the supply chain. This platform allows collaboration among all stakeholders, including shippers, receivers, carriers, and service providers, to prevent delays and identify efficiency gains. RyderShareTM integrates best-in-class business intelligence tools and a proprietary analytics solution to inform future decisions, prepare supply chains for unexpected events, and accelerate recovery from disruptions.

Lexmark’s Senior Vice President and Chief Product Delivery Officer, Billy Spears, expresses confidence in Ryder’s ability to keep them ahead in the rapidly evolving supply chain environment. With a 14-year history in transportation management, Ryder has become an integral partner for Lexmark. As Lexmark sought a new supply chain partner for continuous improvement and innovation, expanding the relationship with Ryder to include supply chain solutions was a natural progression.

Ryder’s scope of services for Lexmark covers distribution management, returns handling, equipment restoration and redistribution, bundling hardware and supplies, and customization, including options, software updates, and customer-setting configurations. Since 2009, Ryder has been delivering comprehensive transportation management solutions to Lexmark, resulting in $1 million in annual savings and a remarkable greater than 98% sustained on-time performance with Ryder’s qualified carriers.
