Advanced Bell 505 Flight Training Device to Enhance Pilot Readiness and Strengthen Rotorcraft Training Capabilities at King Hussein Air College
TRU Simulation, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company and affiliate of Bell Textron Inc., has announced the successful delivery and acceptance of the Bell 505 Flight Training Device (FTD) by the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF). This delivery is part of a broader purchase agreement that includes the aircraft, an advanced flight training device, and a comprehensive computer-based training package designed to support both basic and advanced rotorcraft instruction at King Hussein Air College in Mafraq, Jordan. The milestone follows the recent handover of 10 Bell 505 helicopters to the RJAF, further strengthening the organization’s training and operational capabilities.
“The Bell 505 Flight Training Device provides the Royal Jordanian Air Force a highly advanced training solution that enhances pilot readiness through realistic simulation of flight procedures and emergency scenarios,” said Jerry Messaris, vice president and general manager of TRU Simulation. “We are honored to collaborate with Bell in delivering this advanced capability, reflecting our shared commitment to the global advancement of aviation training technology.”
The Bell 505 FTD is engineered to replicate the current production model of the Bell 505 helicopter with high accuracy, incorporating additional features requested by the RJAF. The device includes a detailed cockpit frame equipped with two Garmin G1000H NXi display units, a simulated electronic standby instrument module, a Garmin GMA 350Hc audio panel, a simulated Technisonic TDFM-920 radio, authentic aircraft seating, flight controls, and all required instrument panels.
To ensure training fidelity, the FTD integrates highly detailed aerodynamics, engine behavior, control responses, and sound modeling. These elements work together to deliver a realistic and immersive training experience, supporting both visual and instrument meteorological conditions. The system’s direct-projection visual environment enhances immersion and enables complex training scenarios such as formation flying.
The Bell 505 FTD configuration meets the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Level 5 Flight Training Device qualification standards under Title 14 CFR Part 60, ensuring compliance with the rigorous requirements for high-quality training systems.
