
OOCL Wisdom Completes First Green Methanol Bunkering, Begins Maiden Voyage from Qingdao Port

(OOCL) has marked a major milestone in its sustainability journey with the successful completion of the first green methanol bunkering operation for its newest flagship vessel, OOCL Wisdom, at Qingdao Port. Following the fueling operation, the vessel embarked on its maiden voyage to Europe, highlighting the shipping line’s continued investment in cleaner marine fuels and next-generation container ships.
The milestone underscores OOCL’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while modernizing its global fleet to meet the evolving environmental requirements of the international shipping industry. OOCL Wisdom is the first vessel in a planned series of seven methanol dual-fuel container ships being introduced into the company’s fleet. Designed to operate on both conventional marine fuel and methanol, the vessel provides greater operational flexibility while significantly reducing carbon emissions when powered by green methanol produced from renewable sources.
With a maximum carrying capacity of 24,168 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), OOCL Wisdom is currently recognized as the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel container vessel. The ship represents a new generation of ultra-large container vessels equipped with advanced propulsion technology and energy-efficient systems aimed at improving operational performance while lowering environmental impact.
The vessel has been assigned to OOCL’s Asia–North Europe Loop 1 (LL1) service, one of the company’s major long-haul trade routes connecting key Asian export hubs with major European ports. He added that the accomplishment reflects OOCL’s continued commitment to green and low-carbon development, digital intelligence, and sustainable business practices.
