Porter Airlines Launches Nonstop Flights Between Montréal and Newark

Porter Airlines continues to grow its U.S. route network with the official launch of nonstop service between Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Beginning June 25, 2025, the new route strengthens the carrier’s presence in the critical New York City market and offers passengers a seamless, convenient connection between two of North America’s most dynamic urban centers.

This new transborder route will be served by up to two daily roundtrip flights operated with Porter’s De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft, which accommodates 78 passengers in an all-economy configuration with no middle seats—a hallmark of the airline’s commitment to passenger comfort. The schedule is designed to appeal to both business and leisure travelers, offering flexibility for day trips, weekend getaways, and longer stays.

With this announcement, Porter now offers three nonstop routes to Newark, with Montréal joining existing service from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and Ottawa (YOW). In addition, the airline has recently launched service between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA), further cementing its role as a key player in cross-border travel between Canada and the New York City area.

Year-Round Service Reflecting Strong Demand

The Montréal-Newark route is being introduced with a summer schedule and will transition into year-round service based on high seasonal demand and strong advance bookings. According to Porter Airlines, this route is part of a broader strategy to enhance its footprint in major U.S. cities while offering Canadians more options for travel to the United States.

Flight times for the new Montréal-Newark route are as follows (all times are local):

Montréal to Newark
  • 1:10 p.m. departure / 2:50 p.m. arrival – Daily from June 25 to September 7, 2025
  • 6:35 p.m. departure / 8:15 p.m. arrival – Monday to Friday and Sunday

These flight times are optimized for convenient travel and onward connections to other Canadian cities. The frequency and timing provide ample flexibility for various itineraries, from business day trips to longer visits with friends and family.

Elevated Economy Experience Onboard

Passengers flying Porter will enjoy the airline’s signature “elevated economy” experience, which redefines expectations for short-haul flights. Every traveler receives complimentary beer and wine served in glassware, as well as premium snacks curated from Canadian producers. The Dash 8-400 aircraft offers spacious seating with more legroom than typically found in regional aircraft, contributing to an overall more comfortable flight experience.

In addition to the standard offerings, travelers can choose between two fare classes: PorterClassic and PorterReserve. PorterClassic passengers have the option to purchase additional perks à la carte, such as checked baggage, advance seat selection, and priority boarding. PorterReserve, the airline’s all-inclusive fare option, bundles these features to deliver an upgraded experience that remains competitively priced.

Whether flying for business or leisure, passengers benefit from thoughtful service and a passenger-first philosophy that is increasingly rare in today’s airline industry.

Connecting North America and Beyond

This new route offers more than just a direct link between Montréal and Newark—it also enhances Porter’s growing domestic and international connectivity. Travelers departing from Montréal can take advantage of easy same-day connections to key Canadian cities, including Halifax, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, all part of Porter’s expanding coast-to-coast network.

Furthermore, international travelers can connect via Montréal to Air Transat’s European network. Porter and Air Transat maintain an interline partnership that allows passengers to seamlessly book connecting itineraries between North America and destinations across Europe. This partnership expands travel options for both Canadian and American passengers, facilitating smoother international journeys and broadening the scope of accessible destinations.

Strategic Growth in a Key Market

Newark Liberty International Airport is a critical gateway to the greater New York City region, and its inclusion in Porter’s route network reinforces the airline’s strategic expansion into the U.S. transborder market. Newark offers convenient ground transportation options to Manhattan, making it an attractive entry point for travelers heading to New York City and surrounding areas.

Porter’s vice president of network planning and reporting, Andrew Pierce, emphasized the importance of the route, stating:

“This route reinforces our commitment to serving both of these popular cities. Travellers connecting through Montréal now have even more options when further exploring Canada and the United States with Porter.”

This sentiment is echoed by ADM Aéroports de Montréal, which manages Montréal-Trudeau International Airport. The organization expressed its support for Porter’s continued growth and the expanded transborder offering at YUL. A spokesperson from ADM commented:

“ADM Aéroports de Montréal is very pleased to be helping Porter expand its transborder offering at YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport by adding Newark Liberty International Airport to its service. While continuing to meet the needs of various traveller groups, this new addition by Porter also provides a range of options for passengers departing from YUL.”

Customer Convenience and Booking Options

Travelers interested in exploring the new route can book flights directly here the full schedule, fare options, and ancillary services are available. The user-friendly platform allows travelers to customize their booking experience based on personal preferences, whether that means selecting extra legroom, adding checked baggage, or opting for an all-inclusive fare with PorterReserve.

For frequent flyers, the introduction of this route adds more flexibility and potential reward opportunities within Porter’s loyalty program, VIPorter, which allows passengers to earn and redeem points across its network.

A Continuing Commitment to Service Excellence

Porter Airlines has earned a reputation for delivering a premium economy experience at competitive prices, with a focus on customer satisfaction. Its expansion into new U.S. markets—including the launch of routes from Toronto Pearson to LaGuardia and now Montréal to Newark—demonstrates a strong commitment to meeting the needs of both Canadian and American travelers.

With the introduction of the Montréal-Newark route, Porter Airlines offers yet another reason for travelers to choose its thoughtfully curated service. By blending comfort, convenience, and connectivity, Porter continues to elevate the standard of regional air travel in North America.
