Voltera Boosts Electric Truck Charging Network with Two New Strategic Locations in California

Voltera, a leading developer, owner, and operator of zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) fleet charging infrastructure, has announced the acquisition of two new development sites, bringing its total portfolio to 22 strategically located across key transit hubs in California, Texas, Georgia, Arizona, and Florida. This expansion highlights Voltera’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions in the U.S.

The first newly acquired site is an 0.85-acre parcel at 1707 East Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington, CA, ideally located just four miles from the Port of Long Beach and five miles from the Port of Los Angeles, supporting the region’s drayage operations. The site will accommodate up to 30 electrified stalls and has already secured a power supply of up to five megawatts from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Voltera has also obtained an exemption from the local truck use moratorium, ensuring smooth operations. Additionally, the Wilmington site has been awarded $4.1 million in grants to reduce truck emissions and improve air quality in Southern California. This funding includes $2.3 million from the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Carl Moyer Program and $1.8 million from the Federal Highway Administration’s Reduction of Truck Emissions at Port Facilities Program.

The second site, a 2.75-acre location at 3755 Industrial Boulevard in West Sacramento, CA, is strategically positioned near the I-5 and I-80 highways. It will feature up to 100 electrified charging stalls and has secured a power supply of one megawatt.

“Securing these two sites in California is a major milestone in our mission to support the electrification of commercial fleets,” said Sylvia Hendron, Chief Development Officer at Voltera. “Each site was carefully selected to meet the specific needs of ZEV fleets, including proximity to key transit routes and securing essential funding.”

Voltera’s Chairman of the Board, Brett Hauser, added, “This reflects Voltera’s dedication to overcoming the complexities of site development and accelerating the deployment of zero-emission fleet infrastructure across California and the U.S.”

Backed by infrastructure investor EQT, Voltera takes an active approach to site acquisition and development, aiming to accelerate project timelines and deliver power to ZEV fleet customers more quickly. In 2023, the company evaluated over 1,200 sites, showcasing its ability to navigate and overcome the frequent challenges associated with developing prime real estate for ZEV infrastructure.

“The location of charging infrastructure for medium- and heavy-duty trucks is critical for a sustainable energy transition in the trucking sector. Commercial fleets need power access near major freight routes, along with ample space for vehicles to maneuver. The work of Powering America’s Commercial Transportation (PACT) members is essential for ensuring that trucks and fleets have the power infrastructure needed to comply with regulations and accelerate transportation electrification,” said Dawn Fenton, Board Chairperson of PACT.
